Senator seeks prosecution of IG over N’Assembly invasion



The Vice-Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Kabiru Marafa, on Thursday, urged the leadership of the National Assembly to drag the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba,  to court over his role in the November 20 police  invasion of the Federal Legislature.

The Senate had on Wednesday instituted a seven-member panel, chaired by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, to probe Abba over the pandemonium which occurred on that fateful date following the invasion of the complex by security operatives.

The Senate investigative panel is expected to submit its report next Tuesday.

Lagos residents delaying state projects, says gov



The Lagos State Government says most of the delayed and abandoned projects in the state are results of litigations from residents.

The state’s Governor, Babatunde Fashola, during the inauguration of the Igando Emergency Relief/Resettlement Camp in the Alimosho Local Government Area, said many Lagosians had allowed private interest to override public interest.

He lamented that the attitude was at the roots of challenges encountered by the government in project delivery across the state.

Florida man rapes & beats his 3 year old stepdaughter to death



A 19 year old Florida man Pascal Kaufmann (pictured above) has been arrested for allegedly raping and beating his 3 year old step-daughter to death, Charlie Brame died in hospital on Monday Nov. 24th. Police say she died from severe brain trauma & had signs of recent 'sexual & aggravated abuse'

According to Orlando Sentinel, the little girl was rushed to the hospital after Kaufmann reported she'd stopped moving at their home on Saturday November 22nd. When paramedics arrived at the home, the little girl was struggling to breathe, with bruises covering her back and head.

Ade Abbas (not real name) looked furtively around before he spoke. It was clear he was afraid. He was afraid like many other factory workers, who simply walked away when our correspondent approached them to inquire about working conditions in their places of work. They did not want to get fired.

The condition in the country has taught these youths to be thankful for their situation and count themselves fortunate to be employed, no matter how terrible the working condition in their places of work is.

Some of them told our correspondent that they were aware that their case was ‘voluntary slavery;’ but said they had become powerless as a result of the economic hardship in the country.

“I don’t want to lose my job please, I cannot lose this job. My wife is pregnant. The survival of my family and I depends on the N15,000 I earn here per month,” Abbas said.

Australian cricket player Phillip Hughes dies two days after being struck by ball


So sad to hear that this guy finally died. Been following his progress since yesterday. Australian Cricketer Philip Hughes has died two days after a ball hit him in the neck during a match between his team and South wales at the Sydney Cricket Ground on 25 November 2014.

Though he was wearing a helmet at the time of the freak accident, Philip collapsed and was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney where he underwent surgery and was placed into an induced coma. He died this morning from his injuries. He was 25 years old. May his soul rest in peace, amen.

Doctors said his injury was a rare vertebral artery dissection which led to subarachnoid haemorrhage, which is bleeding in the brain. See pics taken immediately after he fell after the jump...

Nigerian Man part of two accused of allegedly plotting to kill Ferguson police chief


 Two men are being accused of allegedly plotting to murder Ferguson's Chief of Police Tom Jackson and St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch. 


According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Brandon Orlando Baldwin and Olajuwon Ali Davis (pictured above) allegedly purchased a fake pipe bomb and were trying to purchase two bombs when they were discovered. The bomb which was meant to be placed at the St. Louis' Gateway Arch had been targeted at the two Ferguson officials for their roles in the Mike Brown/Darren Wilson case.

Cricket player who delivered ball that killed Phil Hughes leaves hospital in tears


He must be devastated. The ball he threw killed another man. 22 year old Bowler Sean Abbott, whose bouncer hit Philip Hughes in a freak accident on November 25th pictured above being comforted as he left St Vincent's Hospital today after the 25 year old was confirmed dead.

Sean is said to be inconsolable, though he's getting a lot of support from family, friends and fans of late Philip Hughes. Nobody blames him for his death. See more photos after the jump...

Dieziani Alison-Madueke elected first female president of OPEC

Nigeria's Minister of Petroleum, Dieziani Alison-Madueke has been elected the first female president of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). She was elected today at the ongoing 166th General Meeting of the body in Vienna, Austria.

She replaces former president of OPEC, Libyan Vice Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar-Ahirish. She was elected for one year and is expected to immediately resume office.

How to treat a naked woman

With the hashtag, #MyDressMyChoice, these protesters say a woman’s sartorial choices should not be legislated by puritans who assume the right to determine the contents of everyone’s morality by insisting we have to live by certain undiluted African values.

Total: Nigeria gets $10bn Total’s investment in five years



Oil firm, Total, has invested over $10bn in Nigeria in the past five years, according to the company’s Deputy Managing Director, Lagos District, Mr. Charles Ngoka.

He disclosed this during the company’s second Open Day for Secondary Schools in Lagos district.

According to him, the company has contributed about 2.2 billion barrels to the national output, and will continue to invest massively in the country.

Ex-goalkeeper and coach Yomi Peters dies of cancer


Ex-goalkeeper and coach of the Stationery Stores of Lagos Yomi Peters died yesterday morning November 26th at the Lagos University Hospital, LUTH after a battle with cancer. He was 74.

Peters was also an ex-Mandilas FC player. He was recently honoured as a veteran of Federation Cup during the last cup final at Teslim Balogun Stadium, where he was represented by his wife.
