The Minister of State for Health Dr. Khaliru Alhassan announced this at the Public Affairs Forum stating the determination to attain the national Vision 20:2020 has generated the remarkable changes recorded in medical sector. Photo: Army releases 42 suspected Boko Haram members in Borno
42 suspected members of Boko Haram were today Nov. 6th released to the Borno state government after investigations carried out by the Nigerian army showed they’d no ties with the sect.
Presenting the released suspects to their state governor, Kashim Shettima, the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations of the 7 Division, Col. Sanni Usman said investigations showed the men have been arrested at various times in Maiduguri and the rest in Borno state, had no reference to the sect. He announced a donation of N100,000 each from the Nigerian Army to the released men to greatly help rehabilitate and reintegrate them back in the society.
Receiving the men, the state governor thanked the army for conducting a comprehensive investigation. He also gave cash gifts to the released men. 39 of the released suspects were Borno state indigenes while the remaining three were foreigners from Chad, Burkina Faso and Cameroon.
Among the released suspects, a 300 level student of the University of Maiduguri said “I never knew that I could be free again but today marks a fresh beginning in my life. I’ll tell my story to my grandchildren.”

The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, through the Raw Materials Research Development Council (RMRDC), stated their intention to explore and put in effective use Nigeria’s abundant natural resources.
Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Abdu Bulama explained the united states is blessed with abundant natural resources but stressed that there surely is a massive gap in the exploitation and processing of the resources to supply wealth to the citizenry. He added his ministry, through the RMRDC and other agencies beneath the science and technology umbrella, is introducing initiatives directed at utilising the nation’s potential strength to create technological capacities to accelerate industrial growth.
“The overall objective is to encourage the growth and development of resource-based small and medium manufacturing industries and thereby provide jobs, create wealth and reduce significantly the poverty of our people,” Buluma said.
“It is our sincere hope that NIRAM expo will create a lot of engagements that will oil the wheel of SME growth and development in Nigeria, positively change the industrial landscape from import dependence to an industrial sector with high local content to promote Nigerian businesses in the global market. Federal Gov. to Create Database for 20,000 Agric Cooperatives
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Dr Akinwumi Adesina disclosed that over 20,000 cooperative societies could be encoded in the ministry’s database to offer appropriate assistance where needed.
The minister said,
“The apex federation was also complementing the efforts of the ministry to significantly improve on current low access of agricultural credit from financial service providers by agric cooperatives and farmers groups.”
Based on Adesina,
“We have introduced the cooperative data analysis system as part of our efforts to make the cooperative societies become more hard working in order to be self-reliant, progressive and competitive. This system will enable us track their individual performances and their respective needs so that appropriate assistance can be given to those that require help.”
Speaking on the significance of cooperative societies, the minister described them as viable tools for empowerment, job and wealth creation, especially in rural areas. Cooperative societies are now being incorporated into President Jonathan’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda in a bid to boost the economy and solve the issues of poverty and unemployment

Federal Executive Council (FEC) Approves ₦22 Billion for Road Projects in Niger Delta
In line with the determination of the current administration to boost road infrastructure in the states, the Federal Executive Council approved the amount of 22 billion naira for road projects in the Niger Delta.
Briefing State House Correspondents following the meeting, the Minister of Niger Delta Steve Oru said council approved N6.178 billion for the construction of Mbaise Ring Road intersecting and Owerri-Umuhaia Road in Imo State that has been awarded to Messrs Arab Contractors with a completion amount of 18 months.
The Minister also disclosed the FEC approved N9.067 billion for the construction of Calabar-Oban-Nsan-Okoroba-Ajassor Road in Cross River State to Messrs CCECC Nigeria Limited with a completion amount of 24 months. The council approved N3.55 billion for Phase 1 of Mbak Mkpeti-Itu-Okoita-Arochukwu Road in Abia, Cross River and Akwa Ibom awarded to Messrs United Radak Nigeria Limited with a completion amount of 24 months. Whilst the construction of Mbak Atai-Ikot-Ntu-Mkpeti-Okuiboku Road in Akwa Ibom was awarded at N3.246bn to Messrs Jukoko International Ltd and also approved by the council with a completion amount of 18 months.

FG Moves to Create More Jobs for Nigerians in Power Sector
In a bid to open more job spaces for Nigerians in the energy sector, President Goodluck Jonathan initiated a one-year apprenticeship scheme to coach 7,400 young Nigerians on technical jobs.
This initiative, christened the “National Power Sector Apprenticeship Scheme (NAPSAS),” is supposed to lessen the sector’s reliance on foreign expatriates.
Minister of Power Prof Chinedu Osita Nebo said,
“We need this and we cannot run away from it because if we don’t do it, the Chinese, Pakistani and Indians are coming. They are even here already and you see them doing jobs that Nigerians can do. Why don’t we train our people as we create these jobs so that when the international companies demand for expatriate quota, we can ask them if they have exhausted the local capacity that we have here.”
The NAPSAS programme will give young Nigerians the chance for technical trainings in the community of electrical fitters, cable jointers, linesmen and district substation operators within half a year to at least one year.
The minister explained the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) will manage the scheme and trainees will undoubtedly be drawn from all states of the federation, with state governments sponsoring 1,000 of them while the government will sponsor another 1,000 as well as providing monthly stipends of N18,000 during the duration of the training.
Nebo also announced the initiative will undoubtedly be launched by President Jonathan at an unannounced date.

Federal Executive Council (FEC)Approves $200 million Loan to Check Flood in Ibadan
Consistent with FG’s plans to clear all elements of the country of environmental challenges, the Federal Executive Council approved a credit facility of $200million to manage frequent flooding in Ibadan metropolis.
Briefing State House Correspondents by the end of today’s Council meeting, Minister of State for Finance Amb Bashir Yuguda recalled that Ibadan, capital of Oyo state, witnessed massive flooding in 1980 and 2011 which resulted in lack of properties.
The minister noted some remedial works were carried out to avert the long run occurrence of flooding in the town, stressing with the credit facility of $200million, the government would have the ability to manage the frequent flooding in the city.
“It is important to know that when the Eleyele Dam became unsafe, there were lots of problems that happened in Ibadan: drainage system was bad, solid waste management was threatened, the land use planning and flood control assess management was also threatened. We believe with this credit facility coming, the Federal Government will be able to assess the situation,” Yuguda said.
