Chigozie Obioma's The Fisherman makes the UK Guardian First Book Award longlist
It has been a good year so far for Nigerian author, Chigozie Obioma as his debut novel, The Fishermen' which was shortlisted for the prestigious Man Booker Award in July is long-listed for the 2015 Guardian First Book Award.
Guardian First Book Award is a literary award by British national daily newspaper The Guardian that annually recognizes one book by a new writer. It was established in 1999. The prize is worth £10,000. Good luck to him.

Additionally, he said government is to establish properly trained and equipped federal anti- terrorism, multi-agency task force that will effectively address the challenge of Boko Haram and any form of insurgency in a sustainable manner.

Catholic priest killed in Imo
During the weekend, a Claretian priest of the Catholic Church was murdered in Owerri, Imo state.
The priest, whose full identity could not be ascertained at press time, was an academic staff of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo, in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident, he said the priest was murdered by assassins on a bush path.

Police arrest 78-year-old man for raping girl, 11
Police in Lagos have arrested a 78-year-old man, Alhaji Dauda Adebowale, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl, Remilekun (not her real name).
The incident was said to have happened in Pen Cinema, in the Agege area of the state.
It was learnt that some time in June 2015, Remilekun was passing by a shop where the old man lived alone when he called to send her on an errand.

Teenager gets 28 years in prison for stabbing his Mum to death
A North Miami-Dade teen who stabbed his mother to death with a butcher knife then lived with the body for eight days, even throwing a party pleaded guilty Friday and agreed to spend 28 years in prison.
Kit Darrant pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the March 2012 slaying of Renette Emile, 35.

$600m Chinese Rail Loan Not Diverted – Okonjo-iweala
The immediate past Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Sunday described as untrue allegation that a substantial part($600m) of the $1bn Chinese loan obtained for railway projects, was diverted.
Okonjo-Iweala, in a statement by her Media Adviser, Mr Paul Nwabuikwu, also explained that contrary to the allegation, the Kano-Lagos rail project was not part of the project listed for funding from the Chinese loan.

Tragedy struck on Majente Street, in Akute, Ogun State, when Ekene, the younger brother of 25-year-old Kenneth Chikwado Agbamone stabbed him to death following an altercation about washing dirty plates.
Kenneth and Ekene had a heated argument because the younger one failed to wash dirty plates the family ate with earlier in the evening.
