Russia obtain a further UN Security Council Resolution conforming with the “cessation of hostilities” agreement Russia negotiated with the US – this time with American support
A week ago, amidst Turkish shelling of Kurdish positions in Syria and talk of a Turkish invasion, the Russians proposed a Resolution to the UN Security Council reaffirming Syria’s sovereignty.
The Resolution was blocked by the US and its allies.

Capitalism Requires World War

250,000 capitalists read the Financial Times, and it has been our undertaking, since 2010, to chronicle our understanding of capitalism via our book The Philosophy of Capitalism. We were curious as to the underlying nature of the system which endows us, the owners of capital, with so many favours. The Saker has asked me to explain our somewhat crude statement ‘Capitalism Requires World War’.
The present showdown between West, Russia and China is the culmination of a long running saga that began with World War One. Prior to which, Capitalism was governed by the gold standard system which was international, very solid, with clear rules and had brought great prosperity: for banking Capital was scarce and so allocated carefully. World War One required debt-capitalism of the FIAT kind, a bankrupt Britain began to pass the Imperial baton to the US, which had profited by financing the war and selling munitions.

Gunmen Kidnap Female Students In Lagos

No fewer than three students of Babington Macaulay ‎Junior Seminary School, a private school in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, have been abducted by some gunmen. It was learnt that the bandits stormed the school at about 8.30 pm on Monday and seized the children. The ‎Lagos State Police Command confirmed that three schoolgirls were abducted. However unconfirmed reports said the number of the abducted students was more than three.

A Nigerian asylum seeker who claimed to be gay but then raped a woman has been sentenced to serve five years in prison in the Republic of Ireland.

Kenneth Udeh met the woman while she was on a night out and raped her after offering her a lift home. The rape stopped when a passer-by scared him away.

Abductor Of Ese-Oruru Flown To Abuja By Police

KANO – The office of  Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 1 Tuesday morning flown the Bayelsa-born teenager, Miss Ese Oruru and her alleged abductor,  Yunusa to Abuja. Spokesman of the zone, ASP. 

Rabilu Ringim told Vanguard on telephone that the duo  were taken to Abuja to the Inspector General of police who will handover the 14 years old  girl  to her family. Rabilu said “the girl and the boy have been flown to Abuja headquarters of the Nigeria police for proper handing over to her parent”.

Power Supply Drops To 2,665MW Due To Explosions, Gas Constraint

Inadequate supply of gas to the power station and explosions at transmission lines in the Lagos area and Jebba have resulted in a drop in electricity generation to 2,665MW, THISDAY has learnt.
THISDAY gathered that with this development, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has directed the 11 distribution companies (Discos) nationwide “not to pick loads to avoid a system collapse”.
Data obtained from a source at TCN on the “Daily Load Analysis and Day Ahead Consumption” for yesterday showed that between 1 am and 6 am on Saturday, generation fell to 2,500MW.
However, between 6 am and 11.59 pm, the hourly dispatch to the Discos rose to 2,721.20MW, thus averaging 2,665.90MW for the whole day.

Al-Hassan Spells Out Punishment For Ese Oruru’s Abductor

The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Aishat Al-Hassan has condemned the abduction and forced child marriage of a 13 year old girl, Ese Oruru.

Ese was allegedly kidnapped by one Yunusa in Opolo, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, in August, 2015 and renamed her Aishat on arriving Kano state.

The Minister and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) made this known on twitter handle on Monday.

Her words: “Our laws are very clear on the case. Ese Oruru is 14 and as such cannot consent to marriage. Any such union she’s in is illegal.

“I have been in touch with the police authorities in Kano over Ese’s immediate release to her parents and we are making progress.

In Kaduna, Lassa Fever Kills Nurse, Pregnant Woman

 Kaduna State government has confirmed the death of three people following an outbreak of Lassa fever.

The trio – a doctor, a nurse and a pregnant woman, were confirmed dead at Saint Louis Specialist Hospital, Zonkwa, Zango Kataf local government area.

The Commissioner for health in the State, Professor Jonathan Andrew Nok, told newsmen on Monday that the doctor and the nurse had symptoms of Lassa fever shortly after operating on the pregnant woman, who was brought in from another hospital in Kafanchan.

Detained Badeh begs court for bail

Immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (rtd) has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to grant him bail on health grounds.

Badeh has been in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos since February 8, 2016 when he honoured the agency’s invitation for questioning.

Badeh is accused of complicity in an alleged fraudulent transactions involving the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).


Badeh’s request is contained in a bail application he filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja

Madalla Catholic Church Bombers Arrested

Bauchi-The alleged Boko Haram surveillance of the Christmas day bomb blast that killed about 44 persons and wounded over 75 others at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church at Madalla, Niger State has been arrested at Alkaleri town of Bauchi by the Nigeria Army.

The surveillance Victor Moses who was arrested hovering around a mosque in Alkaleri town claiming that he want to convert to Islam.


Victor Moses who hailed from Benue state was arrested along other three suspects Abubakar Shetima Bama, Salisu Mohammed Bello and Umar Madaki.
The suspects were paraded before the Chief Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Yusuf Buratai who was in Bauchi on an official engagement in Bauchi.

No Going Back On TSA, Fed Govt Insists

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), other government agencies and parastatals hoping to get exemption from Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA), have been advised to partner with government for the success of the policy.

Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Mrs Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, said the introduction of TSA will bring a lot of benefits to Nigerians, adding that those against the policy are simply being narrow-minded.

Mrs Winifred who spoke yesterday in Lagos during an official visit to the Administrative Staff College of Nigerian (ASCON), Topo, Badagry expressed worries that some unscrupulous Nigerians might want to circumvent TSA implementation.

Telecoms Operators Seek Four Week Grace Before Deactivating Defective Sims

CONCERNED about challenges being faced by subscribers under the current re-registration exercise, telecommunications operators have applied to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for four-week grace before deactivating any defective Subscribers Identification Module (SIMs) found on their networks.

The operators under the aegis of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) said it was particularly concerned about subscribers whose registration records have been classified as invalid files and rejected by the commission.

Narrating how the law caught up with the suspects, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leye Oyebade, said the breakthrough was made by the special anti-kidnapping squad of the Command after receiving intelligence report on the activities of the suspects. Police further stated that the suspects had succeeded in giving their victims erroneous impression that they could make them rich through rituals.

Ese Oruru, the 14-year-old girl abducted by one Yinusa, aka Yellow from Bayelsa to Kano has been reportedly released and is now in custody of the Inspector General of Police. Tosan Blessing, a lecturer in Bayero University, Kano in a facebook post confirmed her release. ” I can confirm that Ese Oruru the girl abducted in a kamikaze pattern from Bayelsa State by a randy Yinusa is in the custody of the Inspector General of Police.

JAMB Cancels Centres, Relocates Candidates

Lagos —The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, yesterday cancelled two centres in the ongoing matriculation examination following complaints of poor facilities provided by the centres’ administrators in Lagos.

Okorie, who is coordinating the Yaba College of Technology’s Computer Based Test (CBT) examination centre, said candidates at the two centres had been relocated to another centre nearby.
She named the affected centres as Huntview Technology Limited, No. 4, Ayanboye St., Anthony village and the New Ocean Comprehensive High School, Megida, Ayobo area, Lagos. She advised candidates in the affected centres, who were yet to sit for their examinations, to report immediately to the alternative centres provided for the examination.

A man alleged to be a Boko Haram spy who worked for the group to bomb the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church Madalla in Niger State on Christmas Day in 2011 was yesterday paraded by the Nigerian Army in Bauchi.
The blast killed 44 people and wounded 75 others.

According to the army, Victor Moses, believed to be an indigene of Benue State, was arrested in Alkaleri town of Bauchi State near a mosque, claiming he wanted to convert to Islam.

He was arrested with three other suspects-Abubakar Shetima Bama, Salisu Mohammed Bello and Umar Madaki.
