African Leadership: Nigeria Stumbles On As South Africa Stalls

President Buhari of Nigeria has finally named his cabinet. He was either slow, or he was very choosy, or he couldn’t find enough honest people. Certainly his 55th national anniversary speech was full of references to “lawless habits”, with particular reference to public officials.
Bold though that speech was, Buhari still has much to do – and he may not have the dependable and powerful army he needs to do it.
The anniversary was followed by bomb attacks on the capital, Abuja. Meanwhile senior military figures were involved both in starting and ending the coup in Burkina Faso. The army sided with the civilian administration and helped deliver the surrender of troops from the mutinous Presidential Guard.

Looters Will See Hell Soon - Buhari

‘Appointment of ministers in Sept stands’
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday vowed that plunderers of the nation’s treasury would see hell in days to come.

A statement issued by Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina on the president’s first 100 days in office promised what he called “lethal” shots at those “who bled our treasury to the point of death.”
“Some people say the sheriff [Buhari] did not hit the ground running, as he is yet to constitute his cabinet in 100 days. And I usually ask such people: when you hit the ground, and you land in mud, how do you begin to run immediately? You can only sink deeper, if you attempt to run. The thing to do is to first clear the mud, till you get to terra firma, and then you can begin to run.

President Buhari: The Dangers Of One-man-show - The Nation

Perversive aura of power We must not grant President Muhammadu Buhari too much comfort. We cannot afford to blink or take our eyes off the ball. Not anymore; not after all the tormenting disappointments that have emanated from that Aso Rock Presidential Villa since 1999. Why should a President Olusegun Obasanjo have failed so woefully having rode into the scene with cognate experience none else in Nigeria’s history had? Yet he managed to set us back many years. Did we not think that President Goodluck Jonathan brandishing a PhD, and all that shoelessness, was indeed a breath of fresh air? But he fouled our air so much we are still choking.

Nigerians are Nigeria’s worst enemy: See how Buhari’s no-nonsense reputation grabs credit

Tunde Fagbenle
I’m not alone in observing the sudden and dramatic upswing in power supply in the country in the last few weeks, precisely since (retired General) Muhammadu Buhari took over the reins of power as Nigeria’s President. Many Nigerians have equally noted this ‘phenomenon’ especially in the social media and in group talks. It is the talk in homes; it is the talk in schools; it is the talk in the marketplace.
