Yeye Olufunke Daniel: OGD’s Priceless Jewel at 51
“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. She openeth her mouth with wisdom and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also praiseth her…” – Proverbs.
Chief (Mrs.) Olufunke Daniel, wife of former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has been described variously as kind hearted, fashionable, resourceful, intelligent and very beautiful. For her, greatness, nobility and personage are a perfect mix. She is indeed an exemplar of the ideal wife and an archetypal mother.
Born into the family Pa Samuel Ajibola Opawole and (Mrs.) Ibironke Opawole (Nee Osoba) on 27 November, 1963, she began to show, early in life, unmistakably signs of a woman destined to live in the dormitory of the kings. She demonstrates unequalled diligence at whatever she has to do and this quality did not only stand her out among her peers, it equally distinguished her in her academic career.
Yeye, as she is fondly called, had her post primary education at the Baptist High School, Iwo where she yielded to the discipline and the scripturally sound Baptist education which further moulded her vision of life and sharpen her mission of human existence. Etching her nibble footprints in the sands of time, the school authorities were quick to notice her leadership qualities as she was made the School’s games and athletic prefect in her final year. The Daniel’s love for sports still continues till date as manifested in the array of ‘keep-fit” gadgets available at the swimming pool side of their residence.
For someone who believes in the might of education, she enrolled at the school of Basic Sciences at the Ogun State Polytechnic now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta for her Advanced levels course and later proceeded to the nation’s premier University, the University of Ibadan where she graduated in flying colours with a Bachelors of Science degree in Agricultural Biology. At the University, the school authorities acknowledged her exemplary qualities and made her the Health Minister of Queen Elizabeth Hall in 1985.
After graduating from the ‘great UI.’, she served her fatherland through the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps programme. She thereafter worked with Lever Brothers (Nigeria) Limited and, after years of meritorious service, decided to go into private business. She then established Laurel Fashion, a high-riding outfit of which she is currently the Chief Executive Officer. Yeye also designs what her husband, OGD, wears. Hear her: ‘…I’ve always loved fashion. I design what I wear and what my husband wears too. I do all the designs in my shop…” Although fashionable by all standards, Chief (Mrs) Daniel has perfected the strategy of being fashionable in a non-gaudy and simple way – she loves good cloths and dressing well but she prefers wearing pearls and beads rather than gold.
Yeye Olufunke is personification of humility, a feature sometimes missing in some other women of achievements. As attested to by friends, staffers and domestic workers, they unanimously agreed that she is a paragon of virtue, unobtrusive and accommodating.
As an exemplar of the ideal wife and quintessential mother, little wonder that she loves her family most devotedly and passionately. “…My husband is my best friend and I love to be with my kids always…” she said during in an interview. For her, being a housewife has been very wonderful as it gave her the ample opportunities to take care of his husband and cater for the children. Despite the fact that there were good cooks at the government house during his husband’s reign as the governor, Yeye still finds her way to the kitchen which she revealed in an interview: “Let me point out clearly that there are still some delicacies he would want me to prepare for him. For example, he will never allow anybody to prepare his ‘Ikokore’ (Water yam porridge) and ‘Efo riro’ (Vegetable soup). So, I still go to kitchen to prepare his meal!”
Like Mama H.I.D. Awolowo, she accompanied OGD on his campaign efforts prior to 2003 election in Ogun State. Together, they visited all the 236 wards in Ogun State as she coordinated all the women groups in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). While in Office as the First Lady between 2003 and 2011, she touched the lives of many people most especially Ogun State indigenes through the activities of the Gateway Front Foundation – a socio-economic programme aimed at alleviating poverty in the society. The activities of the Gateway Front Foundation includes Micro-credit schemes, Free Medical Services, distribution of educational materials and trade empowerment tools and support for the physically challenged.
She is the matron of Webic Chior and holder of a number of chieftaincy titles among which is the Yeye Fesojoye of Ile Ife, Yeye Fehintade of Omu Ijebu, Yeye Obalofin of Ijebuland, Yeye Asoludero of Makun, Sagamu, Suada of Ifo, Yeye Atunluse of Ogbere and Yeye Akogun of Okun Owa.
At her leisure, she enjoys watching TV and ruminating on how to improve on whatever she does.

The Kano Bombing and The Northern Elites.
The words of Pastor Martin Niemoller is coming to pass:
“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
May God comfort and console those that lost their loved ones since the beginning of this Boko Haram carnage. Amen!
And Now.
It is no longer news that the monster created by the few Selfish, Hate-filled, Religious Bigots and Power Drunken Northern elements has now turn on its venom on its owner.
They saw the time when Mohammed Yusuf (Late BH founder) was busy recruiting their children in the name of Madarassa (Islamic school). They have heard and knew the type of hate-filled teachings Mohammed Yusuf was busy inculcating in their children.
They refused to enlightened and allowed the children of the poor amongs them to acquire western education. All these, because they knew One Day they will use these children for their selfish advantage.
In 2009 when this innocent but highly quaranically brainwashed kids metamophose into jihadist army and confronted the security agents, destroying lives and properties; the same Northern Elements were quite.
The jihadist went on to kill anything that believes or bears the sign of the CROSS. Still, they were quite.
They were thinking in their dellusional mind that at any time they cry “HEY!”, the same army of the cresent and promoters of the moon symbol will listen to them.
Alas! They never knew the snake has grown TWO HEADS. Now that they are busy mildly condenming the works of their hands, the MONSTER has turned its anger on them.

Students' Union Leaders Appreciate Jonathan, Condemn 'Political Tools'
PRESS RELEASE
Revolutionary greetings to all and sundry in the South West Zone, Osun state, Ife community and the generality of Great Ife Students on a successful host of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR for a special meeting with the Council of Obas in South West.
The leadership of the Students’ Union is appreciative of the listening character of the President as well as the efforts of individuals who facilitated the meeting with the President. It is imperative at this point to relay the product of the discussion with the President. The Speaker of the SRC addressed the President and submitted the protest letter which he personally received and gave assurances that the major issue in the letter – increment in fees is going to be addressed holistically in no long time as there are other schools that are affected. He committed himself to address welfare issues that affect OAU specifically.
Although some self-centered and politically-sponsored individuals attempted to unleash their demonic resolutions to deter and dissuade the union leaders from making pressing demands that will enhance the welfare of Great Ife students on campus, to make necessary demands for the reversal of fees and the reinstatement of some of our suspended students from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. On his way out, the president stepped out to the cheers of the students, receiving a lot of applause from the entirety of Great Ife students and commuters having heard that he had committed himself on the increment.
Meanwhile, just as the Union President conveyed to His Excellency, we again implore the president to stick to his promise, as a man of honour and integrity, as Great Ife students are in great anticipation and expectance. The cheers you received today at the time you were leaving were premised on the fact that we believed you will address the increment immediately. Mr President, the reversal of increased fees should also be extended to all Federal Universities and pump funds into education in the interest of the country.
However, we condemn the attitude of some individuals who portrayed themselves as elements of frustration and cheap political tools. Through this medium, we warn them to stay away from OAU campus as they are not unknown to the leadership of the union. We maintain our ground as Intellectual Fighters for Emancipation and not as uncoordinated confusionists and anarchists.
The leadership of the Union is very much undistracted in the maximization of this opportunity to solve the myriad of problems confronting Great IFE students. We also remain committed to the execution of our proposed projects and the completion of ongoing ones – Angola and Mozambique hall water projects, Great IFE app, Union website, and buses for campus shuttle, union hostel, among others.

Still get along with this voice cause that’s the monster
So do-si-do with a sociopath, everyone who knows me knows that
What they don’t know is the fact Rihanna calls me Pinocchio, meh

Wasilat Tasi’u is on trial for the homicide of her 35-year-old spouse, Umar Sani, who kicked the bucket in the wake of consuming sustenance that Tasi’u professedly bound with rodent poison.
“We are appealing to the judge to consider Wasilat’s plea,” her father, Isyaku Tasi’u, told The ociated Press on Thursday.
On Wednesday witnesses told the High Court in Gezawa, a town 60 miles outside Nigeria’s second biggest city of Kano, that Tasi’u killed her spouse two weeks after their wedding in April. Three others supposedly passed on in the wake of consuming the harmed supper.
The indictment, headed by Lamido Soron-Dinki, senior state committee from the Kano State Ministry of Justice, is looking for capital punishment.
The case causes to be reinvestigated the legitimateness of trying a 14-year-old for homicide under criminal law and the privileges of youngster spouses, who are regular in the destitution stricken, prevalently Muslim northern Nigeria area.

Nagee said Tasi’u was a casualty of systematic abuse persevered by many young ladies in the district. Activists say the mix of customary traditions, Islamic law and Nigeria’s protected law posses a challenge when supporting for the privileges of youngsters in Nigeria.
Justice Mohammed Yahaya adjourned the court until December 22. Tasi’u is in state adolescent care.
