Nanny demands ₦15m for kidnapped Lagos children

A nanny, Mary Akinloye, who allegedly kidnapped three kids in the Surulere area of Lagos State has demanded N15m from the victim’s parents.

Our correspondent learnt that the family was contacted on Thursday by the suspect and others, who were suspected to be members of her group. They were said to have demanded the N15m as ransom.  It  was reported on Wednesday that the Orekoya family had posted information on OLX, an online sales portal, seeking the service of a nanny.

Our correspondent reported that Akinloye indicated interest and gave the Orekoyas the contacts of two people who she said were her relatives.

It was reported that the family agreed to formalilse documentation with the purported relatives before the week ran out.

After the 23-year-old resumed for work on Tuesday, she was said to have taken the three children ─ Aderomola (11 months old), Adedamola (4 years old), Demola (6 years old) ─ out, while their parents were away.

She had since not returned.

A family friend, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the kidnappers contacted the family and demanded N15m on Thursday.

The information was confirmed by another friend who put up the post on a social medium, Facebook.

He said, “Is it a crime to employ a house help? The kidnappers have demanded N15m.”

Efforts to reach the family were abortive as they continued to reject calls made to their lines.

They also did not reply to three text messages sent to them on the matter.

The Police Public Relations, Kenneth Nwosu, said investigations were on.

He said, “Investigations are on and that is all I can say for now.

“There are things you do that can jeopardise investigation.

“What is important in a case like this is to ensure that the children are returned hale and hearty. There are information you may have and if you disclose it, you could break the line of communication. So, we are still on the matter to ensure the safe return of the kids.”

Pirates already have October 1, says Afolayan

It is a season of emotions, slips and apologies. Just as many Nigerians were still pondering Oba of Lagos, HRM Rilwan Akiolu’s controversial statements on Lagos politics, award-winning film maker, Kunle Afolayan, also stepped on the toes of some of his colleagues some days ago.
Kunle-Afolayan-1-660x400

Like many film/music producers and marketers that have been frustrated by piracy, it was apparently an overwhelmed Afolayan that, on Monday, posted a hot shot against pirates.

But the context in which he situated the problem is so sensitive that he earned queries from stakeholders of Igbo descent.

Afolayan said,
“It is a fact that most people pirating films are Igbo. One even threatened me after I seized my film from him. You want to know? Pirates already have October 1, and one is already threatening the distributor that they will release it this week.”

Among those who have admonished him is actress and producer, Uche Jombo. According to her, piracy is not a tribal thing. She argues in a Twitter post that it is awkward to insult Igbos about piracy as Nollywood’s success owes its growth to their activities.

She adds,
“Every film maker is sad about piracy. It is a war we will win one day. But, I repeat, piracy is not a tribal thing.”

Another actor, Ifeanyi Ikpoenyi, also moodily reacted to Afolayan, who has, however, apologised to the Igbo, saying he never meant to insult any race.

“I am a patriotic Nigerian. And that I portray in my films. Phone Swap is even more an Igbo film than any other tribe. Again, I am sorry.”

Ikpoenyi has also apologised to the producer of October 1.

Akwa Ibom Gets The biggest Budget Allocation Of ₦260BN In Nigeria

In a lecture delivered at Babcock University’s 12th Convocation titled, ‘Transforming Nigeria economy: Opportunities and Challenges’, Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala gave the breakdown of the allocations of Nigeria’s 10 highest revenue receiving states based on the federal allocations in 2013.
noi1

Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala listed the states which according to her, earn more than the annual budgets of some neighboring countries and queried what these states have been doing with their allocations.

The allocations are as follows:
Akwa Ibom N260 billion,

Rivers N230 billion,

Delta State N209 billion,

Bayelsa N173 billion,

Lagos N168 billion,

Kano N140 billion,

Katsina N103 billion

Oyo N100 billion

Kaduna N 97 billion

Borno N94 billion.

“These were the allocations that all these states got last year, so the question is what did they do with it? Analysis shows that many Nigerian states receive revenue allocation which are larger than budgetary allocation of neighbouring countries such as Liberia which is $433 million, Gambia $210 million.

” So you see that our top 10 states receive more money than these countries and therefore you
should be asking what is this money being used for?” Okonjo-Iweala said.

“However it is not often that you hear people asking what has your state done? Most of their attention is turned to the federal government so we also need to ask what do our state and local government do with the resources they get?” Okonjo-Iweala further stated.

Patience Jonathan, Top Officials In Last Minute Looting Spree Of FG Properties

With about six weeks to vacate their offices, top officials of the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration have embarked on a looting spree, selling off priced government properties to themselves at ridiculous and scandalous prices.
dame_patience_jonathan1

To further compound the impunity of the Jonathan’s administration, a building allocated to Nigeria’s anti-graft police, the EFCC used for intelligence operations since the days of Nuhu Ribadu and Farida Waziri as heads of the organisation, has been taken off from the current head of the agency, Ibrahim Lamorde by the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan and allocated to her police ADC, one Assistant Commissioner of Police, Uche Ifeanyi.

An aggrieved top presidential aide who confirmed the last minute sharing of government properties located within the Aso Rock presidential villa, high brow areas of Abuja such as Wuse 2, Asokoro and Maitama as well as in places like Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Apapa GRA and Ikeja GRA in Lagos, disclosed that Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim is the one coordinating the last minute looting and sharing exercise.

It was further learnt that as part of deliberate and well coordinated efforts under the supervision of Nigeria’s controversial Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN to cripple the EFCC soon after its immediate past chairman, Farida Waziri was relieved of her position, Lamorde largely seen as weak and docile was summoned to the villa to surrender the keys to the building located at 15 Ibrahim Taiwo road within the Aso Rock villa. “He was not even allowed to remove the EFCC furniture in the building”, the source added.

The building was subsequently allocated to Mrs Jonathan’s ADC to live in. To give the criminal effrontery official seal, the property which is a seven bedroom duplex with two bungalows is now being given to the First Lady’s aide to buy at less than the price of the furniture in the building. The source also disclosed that apart from Mrs Jonathan’s ADC, ministers, President Jonathan’s aides, friends and associates are the main beneficiaries of the on-going hurried sell-off of government choice properties across major cities.

Further details of who has bought or is buying what in the mad looting going on in Abuja will soon be made public by this medium.

Mama peace visits Okrika

The wife of the President, Patience Jonathan, on Wednesday visited her hometown, Okrika, in Rivers State. Jonathan’s visit is the first since the March 28 Presidential election, in which her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan, conceded defeat to the President-elect, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Patience, who expressed surprise at the large turnout of people, thanked them for their love and support. She described their warm welcome as a demonstration of their love and affection for her.  Mrs. Jonathan also thanked them for their prayers, support and belief in her husband’s leadership.  Some of the people, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria, said they were proud of the President’s wife.

One of them, Mrs. Remi Kuku, said Nigerian women had never had it so good until Mrs. Jonathan came on board.

“History will be kind to her, no matter what anyone or group says about her; she is a goal-getter and I wish her well,’’ Kuku said.

Also, Mr. James Bright said Mrs. Jonathan had contributed to the socio-economic development of Okrika people.

We are taking appropriate action on Oba of Lagos – DSS

The Department of State Services has said that it is making suitable move over the affirmed threat of Ndigbo in Lagos by Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu.

Answering inquiries at the National Information Center in Abuja on Wednesday, representative for the secret administration, Marylyn Ogar, said the administration was taking care of the matter however she declined to give the subtle elements of the move being made.

Ogar said,
“We are taking appropriate action. Yesterday, the service had once again warned all Nigerians not to stoke the embers of discord within the country.  “If the presidential election had come and gone successfully, we wouldn’t want people to begin to whip up sentiments unnecessarily. So we are handling it.”

Impeachment notice on Fayose valid – Falana

A Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), has advised the Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, to take the impeachment notice served on him by the 19 All Progressives Congress members of the state House of Assembly seriously, saying the notice is valid before the law.
Femi Falana

Citing sections 91, 96 and 188 of the country’s constitution, Falana explained that what was required to serve an impeachment notice was one-third of the members of the assembly, noting that the 19 members that signed the notice were more than the one-third of the total legislators required by the constitution.

He added that the constitution did not also stipulate that the impeachment notice must be signed in the Assembly chamber.

“Once the governor receives the notice, it has to be taken seriously because impeachment is a serious matter in the Constitution. That is why I am advising the governor to take this matter very seriously. He should seek legal advice on this matter,” Falana said.

Falana said,

“Section 96 (1) says the quorum of a House of Assembly shall be one-third of all the members of the House. In the case of Ekiti, the very least that can sit is eight members.

“Section 188 says that whenever a notice of any allegation in writing is signed by not less than one-third of the members of the House of Assembly and is presented to the Speaker that is known to law, the Speaker shall, within seven days of the receipt, cause a copy to be served on the governor or the deputy governor. That is enough to put the engine in motion for the impeachment of a governor. The constitution does not say the letter must be signed in the House.

“And from the look of things, that constitutional provision has been met. I do hope that the governor will take this notice very seriously, and react under the law.”
