Man poses as importer, defrauds trader of N10m

A member of a syndicate, Festus Anyaere, has been arrested for allegedly conniving with seven others at large to defraud a trader, Temitope Ibitoye, of N10m.

It was gathered that the 33-year-old suspect had sometime in February 2012 approached Ibitoye in the Ebute Ero Market, parading himself as an importer of stoves and other household items.

Robbers strangle driver in Lagos gardens

Operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, Lagos State, have arrested a five-man gang for allegedly strangling a cab driver, Sonye Chukwudi, aka Zack Friday.

Akande, ACF disagree over APC crisis

A pan-North socio-political organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, has lashed out at a former acting National Chairman, All Progressives Congress, Chief Bisi Akande, over an alleged anti-North statement.

Akande had, in a letter made public on Monday, alleged among other things, that some members of the northern elite, who included oil subsidy barons and business cartels, were behind the crisis engulfing the ruling party at the national level.

We won’t pay staff schools workers’ salaries again – FG

The Federal Government has formally hands off the payment of salaries of teaching and non-academic workers of staff schools in institutions across the country.

The National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission specifically said government should not be responsible for the payment of their salaries because of its overbearing effect on the budget.

Fani-Kayode changes name

Following his discharge and acquittal of money laundering charges on Wednesday by a Federal High Court in Lagos, a former Minster of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has changed his name.

Fani-Kayode, who read a prepared speech outside the courtroom shortly after Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia set him free, said his trial which began in 2008 had almost destroyed his life, his family and his reputation.

Jilted job seeker bathes ex-lover with acid

The police in Lagos have arrested a man, Paul Nwokobia, for allegedly pouring acid on his ex-lover, Rosemary Nnaife, in the Surulere area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Nwokobia, who was arrested by policemen from the Itire division, was apprehended along with three of his friends ─ who were identified as accomplices.

9 people have been sentenced to death in Kano state for blaspheming against the Prophet Muhammad and that has drawn a public outcry on social media. The incident occurred in June, and last Thurday, an Upper Shari’a court sentenced them to death. The Kano State Sharia Court of Appeal, in a statement, said the nine were found guilty under Sections 110 and 382b of the Sharia Penal Court law of 2000. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday July 1, 2015, arraigned the duo of Osaze Akhigbe and Ndekwu Jindu before Justice Lawal Akapo of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja on an 11-count charge bordering on conspiracy to obtain goods and money by false pretence. The defendants, Akhigbe and Jindu were arrested by the EFCC sometime in 2013 based on a petition from one Jolanta K, an American. Jolanta alleged that she met jindu, who introduced himself as a self-employed Caucasian pharmacist, online in June 2012.
