Boko haram slaughters 28 in fresh attack in Borno


28 people were slaughtered after Boko Haram members attacked Mafurnudi in Damboa LGA of Borno State, on Tuesday. A resident of the state Abubakar Jojo, who confirmed the killings, said
''They attacked our people in Mafurnudi village on Tuesday but we learned about it today because there are no telecommunications in Damboa area. Twenty-four men and eight others suffered gun wounds. They carted away all their foodstuffs and set their homes ablaze,'' he told SaharaReporters
In a related development, the sect members attacked Kafa village in Damboa LGA yesterday August 26th, killing four people ‎
''Boko Haram attacked fishermen at Kafa village yesterday [killing] four people then throwing them into the river,” a resident Kaka Sadiq said.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has written to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission indicating his plan to recall all police officers who have so far served in the commission for five years, authoritative sources at the police headquarters in Abuja have told PREMIUM TIMES.In a letter, with reference number CB/33/80/IGP.SEC/Abj/Vol.52/60, and dated July 14, 2015, Mr. Arase directed the EFCC to compile a list of all officers in the category, and forward to his office without delay.

Family of American teenager murdered in Somalia seek answers



Ammar Abdirahman’s mother said she sent him from Minnesota to a Somali boarding school to protect him. The teen never returned home. Sent to Africa to be safe from gangs in Minnesota, Ammar was instead beaten and killed by locals in Somalia in May. His mother said the teen may have been targeted because he was American.
No formal homicide investigation has been launched and his family is still trying to obtain his remains.

NOUN Students Threaten School VC In Face-off, Issue 7-day Ultimatum

Students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have issued a seven-day warning to the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, over some demands or face damning consequences. In a letter made available to Naij.com and signed by the students’ representative, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, the students discussed series of issues, askijng the school head to take actions as soon as possible or face the unpleasant events that might follow his negligence.

Nigeria Spends N16b Yearly Importing Tomatoes

The Federal Government yesterday said Nigeria spends N16 billion yearly on importing tomatoes.

Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Sonny Echono, who puts the country’s domestic demand for tomatoes at 2.3 million tonnes, said the country only produces 1.8 million tonnes yearly.

Economic Growth Falls To 2.35% - National Bureau Of Statistics

Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product plunged to 2.35 per cent in the second quarter of 2015, compared to 6.54 per cent in the same period last year, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Tuesday.

The country’s economic growth rate for the second quarter represents a 40 per cent decline from the 3.96 per cent recorded in the first quarter of this year.

Senate, Reps okay pay cut


Members of the National Assembly on Wednesday said they welcomed the decision of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission to review downward the salaries and allowances of members of the National Assembly.

The House of Representatives said a pay cut would be a “relief” to lawmakers in many respects, including restoring the dignity of the legislature in the country.

NDLEA occupies Arik attendant’s house, grills co-workers


The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Wednesday stormed and occupied the Lagos house of Chika Egwu Udensi, a crew member of the Arik Air flight W3101, who was arrested with 20 kilogrammes of cocaine at the London Heathrow Airport.

The NDLEA moved to the house after they had interrogated pilots and flight attendants of the flight that left the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos for London on Monday night. The interrogation lasted for several hours at the NDLEA head office in Lagos.

Dead Body Abandoned By Pedestrian Bridge In Abuja


Reports reaching DAILY POST reveal that a corpse is at the moment lying abandoned by the road side in Abuja. DAILY POST reports that the dead body of an unidentified young man was abandoned around CITEC Pedestrian Bridge, in-between Gwarimpa and Galadima bus stops. DAILY POST could not ascertain the cause of death as at press time, however, those around the scene suspect that it may have been caused by a hit-and-run driver or an armed robbery attack. Commuters and passers-by are worried that the stench from the decaying corpse poses serious health challenges and have called on the police, Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB and Area Council official to help do away with the corpse.

Alleged N1trillion diversion: Lamorde fails to appear before Senate committee


EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde today failed to appear before the senate committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions investigating claims by a petitioner, George Uboh, that the anti-graft boss diverted N1 trillion recovered loots from corrupt politicians including former Bayelsa governor Diepreye Alamiyeseigha and former Police boss Tafa Balogun. At the opening session of the hearing which commenced in the National Assembly, the petitioner, George Uboh provided documents to substantiate his claims. EFCC boss had however written to the committee asking for more time to gather relevant documents and was given another date to appear before the committee to answer to the petition.

Tension At NDDC As Top Officials Meet Buhari Over Missing N184billion

A’court Upholds Ambode’s Victory, Fines Agbaje

The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on Wednesday affirmed the verdict of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which upheld the declaration of Akinwunmi Ambode as the winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Lagos State. The appellate court aligned with the July 1, 2015 decision of the Justice Muhammad Sijaro-led tribunal which declared as incompetent and therefore struck out the petition by the second runner-up in the said election, Jimi Agbaje, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party. The five-man appeal panel, after dismissing Agbaje’s appeal on the grounds of incompetence, ordered him to compensate each of the respondents in the sum of N50,000 each. Ambode had been returned winner of the April 11, 2015 poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission having polled 811,994 votes ahead of Agbaje who polled 659,788 votes.
