Appointments That Shows Buhari's Administration Is Wasteful

When President Muhammadu Buhari won the April 11, 2015 presidential elections in Nigeria last year, one of the promises he made to Nigerians is that he will run a lean government to save cost.

But, the recent appointments by the president suggest that it is either Buhari lied to Nigerians or he has simply forgotten his promise.

The president has embarked on a needless and unnecessary ’employment’ drive, which seem to be a calculated attempt to reward political patronage.

Man kills and buries his father in shallow grave in Anambra state

The man pictured left allegedly killed and buried his own father in Umuajana Village Umudioka, Dunukofia LGA of Anambra state. The old man had gone missing for some days and his family had started looking for him. The shallow grave where the son buried him was discovered on Sunday March 6th, around 2pm after someone raised suspicion. The son was handed over to the police for further investigation. Saraki Bribes Judicial Reporters Ahead Of Corruption Trial - Sahara Reporters

With his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal scheduled for Friday, March 11, 2016, Senate President Bukola Saraki’s aides have given bribes to judiciary numerous reporters based in Abuja in order to shape the reporting of the trial, two reliable sources have confirmed to SaharaReporters.

An undercover investigator for SaharaReporters was present when Mr. Saraki’s aides met with Judiciary reporters inside an Abuja garden called Nelson Nuek Gardens, and handed each of the reporters the sum of N50,000. The garden is located in the Central Business District of Abuja, quite close to the International Conference Center.

According to online reports, cultists on rampage attacked and hacked a man to death gruesomely on Sunday night ago at Jaladugbo street, Ikorodu area in Lagos. The deceased reportedly known as Sunshine was hacked to death by some cultists who shot sporadically before escaping on a motorcycle.

NNPC Pays N85bn Into Federation Account

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it has paid N85.96 billion into the Federation Account for January 2016.
This was contained in its Monthly Operations and Financial Report for January, released on Sunday in Abuja.
The corporation said it made the payment in spite of recording a loss of N3.55 billion in the same month.
It also said it paid N1.05 trillion into the Federation Account within a 12-month period, from February 2015 to January 2016.
Giving a breakdown of the amounts transferred in January, NNPC said N85.077 billion was from the sale of crude oil while N880.3 million was receipts from gas sales.

I will start by stating my observation. Whenever there are attacks from the core northerners in the south, instead of us to rise as one man to condemn and address the issue, you see Igbos mocking Yorubas if the attack was in the west and you see Yorubas mocking Igbos if the attack was in the east. The Lagos State Government has asked residents to help the police in fighting crime by reporting criminal activities in their areas.

The government urged all residents to take advantage of the anonymous platforms of telephone calls and text messages to make such reports.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communication, Kehinde Bamigbetan, spoke during the monthly meeting of Community Development Committees and Neighbourhood Watch Security outfit with other stakeholders across the state, a statement said on Sunday.

Residents of Ibafo and Magboro and other communities in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun state are protesting the lack of power supply and social amenities.

The protesters who stormed THE PUNCH office on Monday at about 7am to express their grievances, also blocked the Lagos-Ibadan expressway causing heavy traffic gridlock.

The group sang solidarity songs as they urged the government to intervene in their plight before the rainy season.

BREAKING: Court remands ex-Chief of Defence Staff, Badeh in prison

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has remanded a former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh, in Kuje Prison.

Badeh was arraigned before the court today on 10 counts of money laundering.

The arraignment was initially billed for Thursday last week, but had to be shifted because of the absence of Justice Okon Abang.

The EFCC had on Monday last week filed 10 counts of money laundering against Badeh and a firm, Iyalikam Nigeria Limited, accusing them of fraudulently removing N3.97bn from the account of the Nigerian Air Force in 2013.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has finally had it its way. A meeting held last month of GCC and other Arab Foreign Ministers has condemned Iran for the attack on the Saudi Embassy incident, and the Lebanese Foreign Minister Basil; from the 8th of March Coalition pro-Hezbollah camp, abstained from voting. As a result, Lebanon was punished by Saudi Arabia as the latter decided to renege on the $4bn aid promise to the Lebanese Army and Internal Security.

HUNDREDS of Ogoni people took to the streets on Saturday to protest against the invasion of Gokana and Khana Local Government Areas by the military.

The protesters, who carried white caskets, expressed their sadness over the invasion of Yeghe community in Gokana by soldiers, maintained that the action of the military was politically motivated.

They added that some indigenes of the area lost their lives during the raid that lasted for two days.

The ceasefire in Syria (which is not really a ceasefire, but rather a “focusing of combat operations”) is holding surprisingly well. This is primarily due to the brilliant tactic of forcing each fighting group in Syria to define itself either as a “good moderate”, and be guaranteed safety, or as as en “evil terrorist” and become an indisputably legitimate target which anybody can engage. De jure, the only ones who can legally engage anybody in Syria are only the Russians and the Syrians, everybody else, including the US-led coalition, is present there in total illegality, but de facto the latest agreement also acknowledges the right of all parties to engage the “evil terrorists”. 

Iran Sentences Billionaire Tycoon to Death for Corruption

Babak Zanjani, one of the richest people in Iran, has been sentenced to death after a trial in which he was accused of fraudulently pocketing $2.8 billion.


 An Iranian court sentenced three people, including Babak Zanjani, one of the country's richest people, to death, on corruption charges, local media reported Sunday.
In December 2013, Zanjani was detained on a charge of corruption, as he withheld more than $2 billion, while assisting the sanctioned Iranian government to sell its oil despite the international restrictions.

Man sets himself on fire after fight with partner (photos)

In a video taken in Kentucky and uploaded to liveleak,  a man was seen in flames after he doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire following a domestic dispute. Lexington Fire fighter Major Joe Madden raced towards the man and helped pit out the flames, sustaining burn injuries in the process. See more photos after the cut...


Major Madden was off duty and was driving past the scene when he spotted the human fireball.
Lexington Police said the man, who has not been named, had just had a major fight with his significant other.The man was taken to hospital with 'life threatening injuries'. The mayor of Lexington tweeted to congratulate Madden on his bravery.

Lagos school girls kidnappers evade police, move girls to another location

About 15 gunmen, on Monday at 8pm, scaled the low fence of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School, Ikorodu, Lagos, stormed a classroom where some pupils were studying for examinations and abducted three of them.

Indications emerged on Saturday that the kidnappers of the three female pupils have relocated them.

SUNDAY PUNCH gathered from a reliable police source that activities of the kidnappers, which were hitherto felt around the creeks in Epe and Ikorodu areas of the state, had ceased, suggesting that
the bandits had relocated their captors to another location.

Merchant vows to take Kano lawmaker to Sharia Court

A lawmaker at the Kano State Assembly, representing Warawa constituency has been accused of owing a tyre merchant N404,000 for the past 27 months.
According to the tyre merchant, the lawmaker approached him and procured some tyres, totalling N1, 222.000.
The lawmaker made his initial procurement, dated February 13, 2013, at the end of which he made part payment of N278,000, with outstanding balance of N944,000, the merchant said.
Also, on March 15, 2013 the law maker made additional payment of N250, 000 out of the principal cost, bringing his balance to N694,000.

DSS arrests gun fabricator for Boko Haram

The Department of State Services said on Saturday that it had arrested one Garba Abubakar, who it claimed was a gun fabricator for Boko Haram.

It said that Abubakar was arrested in Jos, Plateau State, during a special tactical operation by the Service.

A statement issued by the department’s spokesman Tony Opuiyo, said that the arrest was in line with the Service’s statutory mandate, and avowed commitment to national security.

Ogun police debunk Yoruba, Hausa clash

The Ogun State Police Command has debunked the rumour making the round on Saturday,that there was violence between the Yoruba and Hausa community in Ogere area of the state.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer‎, Muyiwa Adejobi, he described the news as baseless and untrue.

The statement read,”‎ The attention of the Ogun State police command has been drawn to a rumour in circulation that there is an ethnic clash between Yoruba and Hausa in Ogere,Ogun State.
