Obasanjo Drops Bombshell On Successors


Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Monday said Nigeria would have made remarkable progress if his successors had continued with the policies and programmes of his administration.

He declared that while the late former President Umaru Yar’Adua reversed some of his policies, the succeeding administration of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan also slipped into massive corruption, which his (Obasanjo) regime fought to a standstill.

The Rivers state Government have relieved Kelvin Wachuku of his position as the Commissioner for Works in the state.

Consequently, Governor, Nyesom Wike has appointed Bethel Iheanyichuku as the new Commissioner for Works.

The Rivers State House of Assembly had earlier screened and confirmed Iheanyichuku as a Commissioner-designate.

His screening followed a request by Governor Wike.

Olu Falae Firm’s Account Frozen By EFCC Over Alleged GEJ N4bn Campaign Funds

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has frozen the bank account of a company belonging to a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, The Punch reports. It was gathered that the account with the United Bank for Africa titled Marecco Nigeria Limited with number 1000627022, was frozen as part of investigations into the N4bn disbursed by the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election. It would be recalled that Falae had received N100m on behalf of his party, but said he was not aware that the money belonged to the Government and it wasn’t a personal fund but something he got on behalf of his party.

CCT: Paul Erokoro Blasts FG ‘For Wasting Tribunal’s Time’

A mild drama took place at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on Tuesday as a counsel to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Paul Erokoro lambasted Federal Government’s lawyer for insisting that only one counsel should be allowed to cross examine a witness.
Saraki is standing trial on a 16-count charge of false assets declaration.

Erokoro said this while reacting to the submission of Federal Government’s lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, who condemned the trend where more than one defence lawyer keep cross-examining a particular witness.

Thugs Machete Task Force Officials In Lagos (photos)

SOME Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) officials were on Saturday stabbed with cutlasses and broken bottles by miscreants and illegal abattoir operators at Idi-Araba near Lawanson in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos.

They also damaged the task force’s two Toyota Hilux vans and a Black Maria and stopped the operatives from sealing off the illegal abattoir.

Lagos State Generates N101Billion In 4Months

The Lagos State Government generated a total revenue of N101.69bn in the first quarter of 2016 out of which a surplus of N4.85bn was realized as against an expected N29.92bn deficit, the State’s Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Akinyemi Ashade said on Monday.


Speaking at the ongoing Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja to commemorate Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s first year in office, Ashade said the generated revenue was above that of 2015 which stood at N97.28bn in the first quarter, adding that in absolute terms, the revenue performance was N4.4bn more than comparative period of 2015.

SOLDIERS invaded Oporoza community, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State and home base of ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, at the early hours of Monday, in two gunboats in search of members of Niger Delta Avengers, the militant group bombing oil installations in the state.

The military men, who came at about 12.30 am while the people were asleep laid siege at the community until about 5.00 am when they departed. A source said the army reportedly acted on intelligence information that the militants had secretly converged on the community.

Fake Town Planner Arrested In Lagos


Officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development on Monday apprehended a middle-aged man, Adeyemi Adebayo who specialized in serving fake demolition notices and stop-work orders on buildings under construction in exchange for inducement.


Adebayo, who claimed to hail from Osun State and reside in Anuoluwapo area of Ilogbo in Ogun State, was said to have been apprehended after serving demolition notice on a building under construction in Lagos State.

Four Power Plants Shut After Militants’ Attacks


No fewer than four power plants became idle on Sunday as a result of the attacks on oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta, bringing the total number of plants not generating any megawatts of electricity to 12.

There was significant reduction in generation from virtually all the other plants producing electricity, including Egbin in Lagos State and Alaoji in Abia State.

China’s refusal to grant the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis a stop over in Hong Kong was “done to punish the US” for being a “provocative vanguard” in the region, according to the US-based website The Epoch Times, which focuses on China news and reviews the Chinese media.

Chinese officials have not provided any explanation for their refusal to allow the USS John C. Stennis to berth in Hong Kong on April 28.
