Ex-News of the World Editor bags Eight Months in Prison Over Phone-Hacking

London’s Central Criminal Court sentenced Ian Edmondson, former editor of the now-defunct News of the World newspaper, to eight months in jail for phone-hacking.

Edmondson admitted he conspired along with his colleagues and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire to intercept voice mails in the time from 2000 to 2006 to be able to get exclusive materials about politicians and celebrities. The News of the World owned by the media magnate Rupert Murdoch was closed in 2011, when the police revealed massive criminal activity of the newspaper. Edmondson is the eighth journalist of the newspaper who has been convicted of widespread hacking. Ex-chief editor of the News of the World was sentenced to 18 months in prison for bugging members of the royal family.

A suspected fraudster, who defrauded a group of Bureau de Change operators of $18,600,290 USD and disappeared after he was granted administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been re-arrested. Alhaji Saidu Hashim was picked up by operatives of the Commission from his hide out in Lagos.

Roman Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Francis Agantem Eworo of the Ogoja Diocese in Cross Rivers state, has signified fascination with running for governor of their state in the 2015 general election.

At a media parley held recently, Rev. Fr Eworo told newsmen he intends to contest on the platform of PDP and if elected as Governor, would concentrate on youth development amongst others

Father Eworo who says he’s been active in the politics of the PDP since 1999, was ordained a priest in 1977 and has served in a variety of parishes of the Catholic Church in Ogoja, Ikom, Uruan, Calabar, and Akwa Ibom State. Could it be OK for a Catholic priest to contest for an election?

Following a transformation made under President Goodluck Jonathan in medical sector, the sector has been said to have assumed an esteemed status in the international community.

The Minister of State for Health Dr. Khaliru Alhassan announced this at the Public Affairs Forum stating the determination to attain the national Vision 20:2020 has generated the remarkable changes recorded in medical sector. Alhassan said the commitment of the Federal Government to the actualization of the Transformation Agenda has generated saving of plenty of lives. He explained,

“Through the Saving One Million Lives Initiative, more than 433,650 lives had been saved as at December 2013. The ministry is also working with the relevant agencies to enact/review the following legislations: National Health Bill, Anti-Tobacco Bill, NAFDAC Act, National Health Insurance Scheme Act, National Blood Transfusion Service Bill in order to completely change the face of the health sector in Nigeria.”

Famous Ukrainian model, Valeria Lukyanova, who calls herself ‘Human Barbie’was injured on her behalf face after being attacked on Halloween night, Friday October 31st.  Valeria said she was strangled by two strangers near her home in Odessa, Ukraine carrying out a 2-year hate campaign. She said her attackers didn’t attempt to rob her but hit her on the pinnacle and often times on her behalf jaw.
