The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of Gombe State’s Akko Federal Constituency rerun election conducted Wednesday 27, January 2016. Announcing the results in Kumo, the Returning Officer, Sofeme Jebson, said that Ismaila Mu’azu Hassan of PDP was elected with 21,094 votes while Musa Danladi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) took second with 4,578 votes. Salisu Babikir of African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored 723 votes and Haruna Adamu of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) scored 448 votes. The All Progressives Congress, APC, had no candidate in the election, following the nullification of its candidate’s 2015 win by the Appeal Court. The court had cancelled the election on the grounds that the candidate, Umaru Kawuwa Barambu, did not properly defect from the PDP. Meanwhile, the election for the Akko North state constituency was declared inconclusive.

NIGERIA may be headed for another round of Kerosene crisis as the Federal Gov­ernment has directed petro­leum depots to sell the Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) at N73.37k per litre from the initial price of N40.90k per litre it had set earlier.

At the former price of N40.90k per litre, only Nige­rian National Petroleum Cor­poration (NNPC) outlets sold at the recommended price of N50 .00. while other fill­ing stations sold at between N120.00 and N150.00.

Twin Explosions Kill Two, Injure Four in Northern Cameroon

Two explosions were heard on school grounds in the town of Kerawa in northern Cameroon, according to media reports. At least two people died and four were wounded in a double extremist attack in northern Cameroon on Thursday, media reported.

According to the BBC, citing witnesses, two explosions were heard on school grounds in the town of Kerawa. Teh attacks were carried out by suicide bombers.
One of the assailants was stopped by the school guards, and detonated herself before reaching the school, the British broadcaster said.

Ban Ki Moon, secretary-general of the United Nations (UN), has appointed Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, as a member of the United Nations Institute For Training And Research (UNITAR).
According to PRNigeria, a media group for government and military press releases, Amaechi’s appointment took effect from Jan 1, 2016.
“The Hon. Minister of Transportation Rt. Hon. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has clarified that the N50 stamp duty imposed on bank customers is to be charged per transaction and not per volume of N1,000. Hence, irrespective of the amount, the sum of N50 is to be charged provided such a transaction is N1000 and above.

Syrian Army Continues Destroying Daesh Positions on Several Fronts

The Syrian army together with the country's air force destroyed numerous Daesh terrorists’ positions, and struck heavy casualties on different militant groups in several provinces in the last 24 hours.

 A 43-year-old man convicted of raping and beating a woman to death with a dumbbell has been executed by lethal injection in Alabama.

Christopher Eugene Brooks was convicted of the capital murder of 23-year-old Jo Deann Campbell, a woman he met when they worked at a camp in upstate New York. According to the court record, Ms Campbell was seen speaking to Brooks at a restaurant where she worked on 30 December 1992, and later told a friend someone was spending the night in her living room. The next day, police found her partially clothed body under the bed in her apartment in the Birmingham suburb of Homewood.

Dasuki’s Lawyer Links Jonathan To Arms Deal

A lawyer defending Sambo Dasuki in court appears to have indicted former president, Goodluck Jonathan, in the ongoing arms deal probe in Nigeria.  Ahmed Raji, one of the lawyers of Sambo Dasuki, the embattled former National Security Adviser to Jonathan stated that the arms deal probe cannot be discussed without reference to Jonathan. “The national security adviser will normally carry out the instructions of his president,” Ahmed Raji told AFP.
