French Invitation for Russia to Attend Mistral Warship Handover on December 14 Still Legitimate
A French invitation for a Russian official delegation to attend the delivery ceremony of the Vladivistok helicopter carrier in France on 14 November hasn’t been voided, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said Sunday, implying that the handover could still take place soon.
Answering a journalist’s question on the specific situation across the Mistral-class warship, the minister stated that “the invitation has not been withdrawn, and the man [responsible for the delivery] has been dismissed. What to make of it? It is up to you.”
It was reported earlier that French arms industry company DCNS dismissed Yves Destefanis, a task director accountable for the handover of the Mistral helicopter carrier to Russia.
He was sacked after French Finance Minister Michel Sapin claimed that conditions for the handover of the 1st of two Mistral carriers to Russia hadn’t been met. Herve Guillou, the CEO of DCNS, made the state statement concerning the dismissal on October 31, saying Destefanis had allegedly “caused damaging consequences” to the organization, based on the French newspaper Les Echos.
Russian Deputy Minister Dmitry Rogozin said earlier that Russian arms exporter Rosoboronexport have been invited to France to attend the state handover ceremony of the 1st Mistral carrier in mid-November.
Russia and France signed the €1.2 billion ($1.5 billion) deal for both Mistral-class ships in June 2011. Ever since then, the offer has been over jeopardy after the West started implementing economic sanctions against Russia over the Ukrainian crisis.

” APEC is a model of how we should move forward together in the twenty first century,” it quoted Clinton as saying in his video remarks ahead of the 2014 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Beijing, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the organization’s founding.
In his speech, Clinton provided “historical context” for the upcoming meeting and spoke on its role in creating “a more inclusive, more secure, more sustainable world for generations to come.”
“A little more than twenty years ago, I was honored to convene the very first APEC Leader’s Meeting in Blake Island in Washington,” he said, adding that the member countries at that time “were entering a new era of globalization, and the Asia-Pacific region was well on its way to becoming the most important source of global growth and dynamism.”
“In order to seize the opportunity we had to find ways to work together to advance our shared interests and overcome some common challenge. This meeting has helped to do just that,” the former US president said.
The 2014 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting is due to open in Beijing on November 10-11.

Emir of Kano, SLS receives seized travel passports from SSS
The State Security Service, SSS yesterday November 8th returned the international travel passports (diplomatic & standard) of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, that they seized a couple of months ago after he was removed as the pinnacle of the Central Bank.
His diplomatic passport was seized at Lagos airport on his return from Niger Republic while his standard passport was seized at the Kano Airport when he tried to visit France. The passports was returned to him at his Palace yesterday following his recent reconciliation with president Jonathan.

15 People drown as bus plunge into a River in Sokoto
At the least 15 people drowned in Rima, Goronyo Local Government Part of Sokoto State, when they were traveling in plunged right into a river on Friday morning November 7th.
Based on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the deceased were traveling back from their hometown, Dan-Wawaru, from Takakume, a village near Rima, when the accident occurred.
Spokesman of the Sokoto Police Command, Al-Mustapha Sani, said the car was conveying 17 persons during the time of the accident and that only two survived. He said the explanation for the accident hadn’t been ascertained, and that the remains of the deceased have been evacuated and have since been buried by their respective families based on Islamic rites.
