UNIJOS in Turmoil as students protest hike in school fees

Students of the University of Jos continued their protests today after yesterday’s chaos in the institution over what they say is a 100% upsurge in school fees. ‎The protesting students set fire right in front of the institution gate this afternoon, insisting that school authority must reduce their fees.

The students say the fee was N27,800 but has been risen up to #60,000. Additionally they say they certainly were forced to pay developmental levy which has never been used for any development within the university. They said all effort by the student union government to consult with the Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Hayward Babale Mafuyai, was met with a stone wall since the VC refused to negotiate with the students.

Following his refusal to consult with students, they took to the streets to protest, blocking all roads ultimately causing the university of Jos thereby bringing all activities to a standstill. All university activities was also boycotted such as the exams that wast meant to start yesterday 24th November.

Three unbelievable things probably if not in Nigeria will never happen in any country of the world

Every country needs rule of law, discipline, and order to survive. The laws and rules been constituted by communities and nation are meant to keep the community and the states to keep going.
rule Three unbelievable things probably if not in Nigeria will never happen in any country of the world

The system of punishment, prison terms and even death sentences are meant to deter people from violating the law. That also will protect the communities and its people from evil and harm.

In Nigeria just like any other nation, there are laws, rules, codes, acts, bye laws, edicts and various decrees enacted, passed and implemented in order that Nigeria will keep going in order. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, those above said laws are not obeyed. When those laws, orders are violated, the law should be allowed to take its course. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, it is the government officials that are violating the law. They are not – as they cannot be brought before justice in Nigeria.

In some countries, when government officials violate the law, they resign or got removed. Scandal of US presidents, Nixon, Clinton got them out of office, Godon Brown of UK, Prime Ministers of Japan (from 2010 to date) etc. But in Nigeria, they don’t resign. They even get to enjoy their offices more. The Zaki Biam, Baga massacre, Haliburton scandal, fuel subsidy killing, the missing 20 billion dollars scandal are enough to bring down a government.

After carefully analyzing some unbelievable facts, I came to conclusion that some 3 unbelievable facts, if not in Nigeria cannot happen in any country of the world;

Firstly, the current general level of insecurity in Nigeria and the way our government is handling it: it is believe that over 14 thousand people have been killed so far. Also, over 3 million people are believed to have been displaced in Nigeria. Over 1 trillion naira is budgeted and spent on security annually. Unfortunately, security has kept on deteriorating day in – day out. Insurgency in the North East, cattle stealers, in the North West, tribal clashes in the North Central, militancy in the South-South, kidnapping in the South East and cultism in the South West, etc. If not in Nigeria, where on earth will this happen?

Secondly, the level of corruption, looting and misappropriation of public funds: just recently, 20 billion dollars went missing, over 40 billion excess crude account disappeared, legislature catering away 25 percent of national budget, over 20 billion naira spent on Presidency yearly, over 2 trillion stolen from subsidy scheme, a single minister buying a 1 billion dollar house in Austria, another minister buying 2 cars of 255 million naira, etc. It is believed that over 10 trillion naira has been stolen from Nigeria since independence. If not Nigeria – in Nigeria where on earth will this kind of massive looting spree take place?

Thirdly, subsequent government failures, lies and unwillingness: the subsequent and persistent government failure in carrying out it duties and programs. Same mistake have been allowed to take place in Nigeria. Nigeria is not learning lesson. Its is now time for Nigeria to develop. The government should try to put its best to develop the country. If Nigeria fails, it is not only the poor. Nigerian people that failed, it is all of the people of Nigeria that failed.

The proposed Jewish state of Israel: Another apartheid state in the making

The move by Israeli Prime Minister Natanyahu (LA) to rename the democratic state of Israel to Jewish state of Israel is most unfortunate, barbaric, in humane, and anti semetic.
Israel Flag The proposed Jewish state of Israel: Another apartheid state in the making

The bill is expected to go to Israel parliament the  Knesst next week. This development is part of series of Israel’s plan to continue causing tension and creating havoc and chaos in the middle east.

The proposed apartheid bill if passed into law, it will make all non jewish people living in Israel second class citizens, and that will undermine the voice and participation of the non jewish population. Out of the 8 million or so people of Israel, Arabs-Israelis account for about 2 million people. That is equivalent to 25 percent of the population of Israel. If the bill is passed, those 2 million people may likely be dis franchised and refugees in their own country.

The World has condemned the move by state of Israel and I have joined in doing that. That was why US State Secretary John Kerry said ” a jewish state of Israel means and apartheid state of Israel”. Due to this kinds of terrorizing actions by Israel, that was why the state of Peru leveled it a terrorist state this year.

Since the creation of state of Israel in 1960s, Israel has not been living in peace with its six Arab neighbors – especially Palestine and Lebanon. The first and second  Intifada (war between combine forces  of Arabs and Israel), Egypt, palestine and host of other Arabs countries waged a battle against Israel. That resulted into thousands of death and permanent enmity between Arab and Israel.  Saudi Arabia, egypt, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan.

Palestine is the closest neighbor of Israel,  since 1960s, over 500 thousand people have been killed by Israel. And its forces. The blocked that Israel places on Palestine for the fast 7 years has killed many people, businesses, futures and ambitions of Palestinians.

Out of over 20 Arab counties, and over 100 Islamic, muslim majority states including Nigeria, Israel has not been recognized as a state by more than 30 of them. In fact, with about 205 countries in this world,  less than 50 of them have recognized Israel.

The world should put a stop to Israel’s proposed discriminatory actions. For peace to be achieved in the middle-east, the US, the UN and the  world should lead the way in ensuring peace in the middle-east, and in the whole world .
