US Fighter Jets Send Message to China With ‘Emergency’ Landing in Taiwan

The arriving of two US bomber jets on Taiwan on Wednesday has chafed China’s Foreign Ministry.
us_bomber_jet

While the Pentagon says the planes endured mechanical inconvenience while flying a routine preparing activity, others see it as a political message, cautioning China to moderate its developing impact.

The Taiwan Relations Act of 1979 laid out strict guidelines for how the United States ought to manage the island. While Washington secretly considers Taiwan to be an autonomous country, China considers the island, just 140 miles from its shore, as its own region under the “one-China arrangement.”

China has affirmed army bases on an artificial island close to the debated Spratly islands, posturing yet another test for US abroad military, conciliatory and political impact.  While the US has promised backing to Taipei, if it be assaulted, any military contact between the two is intensely scowled upon by Beijing. Which is the reason Wednesday’s arriving of two F-18s at the Tainan air base is so upsetting — and unusual.

“We have already made solemn representations to the US side,” China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Hua Chunying, said in a news briefing. “China demands that the United States strictly abide by the “one-China policy”…and cautiously and appropriately handle the incident.”

For its part, the Pentagon insists that the incident was an emergency situation, not intended as an act of defiance.

“Two F-18C Hornets…made a precautionary landing this morning at an airfield in southwestern Taiwan,” Marine Corps spokesman, Maj. Paul L. Greenberg, said, according to the Washington Times. “The cause of the mechanical issue which led to the precautionary landing is currently being examined. As soon as the necessary maintenance is performed, both aircraft will soon depart Taiwan.”

But the timing makes the Pentagon’ version of events highly suspect. Earlier this week, Chinese bombers underwent the People’s Liberation Army Air Force’s first exercises in the “west Pacific.” The flightpath took the H-6K bombers over the Bashi Channel, a waterway between Taiwan and the Philippines.

“The ‘emergency’ landing for two F/A-18 fighters at an air base in Taiwan, while perhaps unintended, does give China a significant signal of US resolve,” military analyst Rick Fisher told the Washington Times, “two days after China used its new H-6K nuclear cruise missile bomber in exercises intended to signal a threat to US forces in Guam.”

Especially given that the fighters could have just as easily landed at the Japanese airfield on Shimoji island, only 120 miles east.

The landings also seem timely given the recent rise in aggressive American rhetoric against the Chinese government. On Tuesday, the commander of the US Pacific Fleet warned an Australian naval conference audience about China’s construction of a “great wall of sand,” in reference to the artificial islands being built in the Spratly chain.

“When one looks at China’s pattern of provocative actions towards smaller claimant states…It’s no surprise that the scope and pace of building man-made islands raises serious questions about Chinese intentions,” Admiral Harry Harris Jr. said.

These allegations of Chinese aggression in the South China Sea appear to be causing a rise in American hostility. In March, the US Senate demanded that the Pentagon develop a strategy to counter the rise of Chinese influence in the region.

Wednesday’s incident isn’t even the first example of an aggressive US air presence in recent months. In February, the US moved its most advanced spy plane, the Poseidon P-8A, into the Philippines to monitor the region

Pentagon Chief: We Might Bomb Iran Even if Nuclear Deal Reached.

As the P5+1 nuclear negotiations – ostensibly seeking to ensure a peaceful future for the Middle East – conclude, they were prefaced by a surprising announcement.
jonathan

On Tuesday, Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said that even if a deal was reached, the US reserves the right to bomb Iran.

A framework deal has been agreed upon by US Secretary of State John Kerry, Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, and the other participating nations. But on Tuesday, when the outcome was far less certain, Defense Secretary Carter assured the public that no agreement would entirely eliminate a more aggressive alternative.

“The military option certainly will remain on the table,” Carter said on NBC’s Today program. “One of my jobs is to make sure all options are on the table.”

Military intervention would be necessary if Iran decided to break the deal, which sought to limit the number of uranium-enriching centrifuges Tehran would be allowed to operate. If it was discovered that the Islamic Republic was operating more centrifuges than agreed upon, and using that excess uranium to develop nuclear weapons, then an attack on those enrichment facilities could, theoretically, be an option.

He also stated that any agreement “can’t be based on trust, it has to be based on verification,” and that it must be “one that keeps us and the region safe. If it’s a good agreement to have, obviously it’s one worth waiting for.”

The new framework deal agreed upon by negotiators states that Tehran will be allowed to operate a single enrichment facility in Natanz, and in exchange, all nuclear-related sanctions against the nation will be lifted.

During his appearance, the Defense Secretary also took time to address other parts of what he called the “confusing, crazy-quilt region” of the Middle East. In reference to the chaos in Yemen, Carter said the United States would continue its counterterrorism operations, no matter the outcome of the Iranian negotiations.

Carters comments came just after Arizona Senator John McCain suggested that Israel “go rogue” and resist any deal that the negotiations might come to.

“The Israelis will need to chart their own path of resistance. On the Iranian nuclear deal, they may have to go rogue” McCain said on the Senate floor. “Let’s hope their warnings have not been mere bluffs.”

McCain’s words may encourage a nation already bitterly opposed to the negotiations. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been very vocal about his distrust of Iran’s intentions.

“This dangerous deal, as it appears to be emerging, bears out all of our fears, and even more than that,” Netanyahu said during a speech on Sunday, as the original March 31 deadline for a framework deal approached.

After meeting with Netanyahu on Sunday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner announced they would put forth a bill which would require President Obama to get the approval of Congress before any deal is officiated.

'Historic Deal' With Iran finallly reached- Obama

US President Barack Obama said Thursday following a decision of the P5+1 and Iran on the framework of the future nuclear agreement after many months of talks that a “historic deal” had been reached with Tehran.

US President Barack Obama said that if the Iranian nuclear deal was implemented, it would prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

“Iran will never be permitted to develop a nuclear weapon,” Obama said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif (R) delivers a statement, flanked by European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne on April 2, 2015 .

The long-awaited interim solution on Iran’s nuclear program was reached earlier on Thursday at the latest round of talks in the Swiss city of Lausanne. The US president said that the reached deal was an opportunity for Iran to prove that its nuclear program was peaceful. Obama said that sanctions could be re-imposed if the nuclear agreement was violated adding that the reached nuclear agreement was based on unprecedented verification, not on trust.  “If Iran shifts, we will know it. If we suspect anything, we will inspect it,” US President Obama said.  He added that other US sanctions against Iran that were not related to its nuclear program would remain.

“The international community has agreed to provide Iran relief from certain sanctions, our own sanctions and international sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council,” Obama stated.  The deadline for a comprehensive agreement has been set for July 1, 2015.

The US president, however, emphasized that the final agreement had not been signed yet.

Obama said that the reached agreement on Iranian nuclear program had prevented a new war in the Middle East adding that the approach of Washington and Tel Aviv on the the Islamic Republic’s nuclear issue differ.

“If… Netanyahu is looking for the most effective way to ensure Iran doesn’t get a nuclear weapon, this is the best option,” he said.

“I will be speaking with Prime Minister [Netanyahu] today to make clear that there is no daylight, there will be no daylight when it comes to our support for Israel security, and our concerns about Iran’s destabilizing policies and threats towards Israel,” Obama said.

The agreement has “made the world safer,” he said.

The president quoted John Fitzgerald Kennedy saying that “must never fear to negotiate.”

The P5+1 group comprising Russia, the United States, France, China, the United Kingdom and Germany have been trying to reach a deal with Iran that would ensure the peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear energy program since 2013.

Venezuela Plans to Buy More Russian Weapons

Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro plans to buy more weapons produced in Russia and China, saying the nation should step up its defense against foreign threats.
venezuelan

“We are a people of peace; we want neither violence nor war,” Maduro said, adding that the army, police and the people of Venezuela have to stay alert.

Venezuela is the largest weapons importer in Latin America, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). Since 2011, the country spent some $2.6 on weapons, buying the majority of them in Russia.

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro, speaks during the annual state-of-the-nation address at the National Assembly in Caracas, Venezuela, Wednesday, Jan 21, 2015

In the period from 2012 to 2015 Venezuela is expected to become the second-largest importer of Russian weapons, with sales reaching up to $3.2 billion, Igor Korotchenko, head of the Centre for Analysis of World Arms Trade, told RIA Novosti.

Venezuela and Russia’s state-run arms trader Rosobornexport signed more than 30 contracts on arms supplies in 2005-2009. Venezuela received Russian air defense systems (Antey-2500, Pechora-2M, Buk and Igla) as well as T-72M tanks, Grad and Smerch multiple rocket launcher systems, armored vehicles and artillery.

Russia Slams NATO Military Buildup in Europe as 'Unprecedentedly Dangerous'

The Russian Foreign Ministry declared that NATO’s augmentation is an unprecedented violation of all agreements, including the Russia-NATO Founding Act.

nato

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — NATO military buildup in Eastern Europe is an unprecedentedly dangerous move, which violates all existing agreements, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

“NATO buildup on the Eastern flank, or in the so-called ‘front-line countries,’ is an unprecedentedly dangerous step that violates all agreements, including the Russia-NATO Founding Act, which is still in force,” the ministry’s spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said at a news briefing.

The Founding Act on Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security between NATO and the Russian Federation was signed in Paris, France, in May 1997.

Lukashevich’s words came after the announcement that NATO will deploy forces in Romania.

“If the Romanian government considers it acceptable to increase the presence of NATO groups on its land, as well as by creating such a powerful ‘armed fist,’ they just have to be aware of the responsibility and the consequences of such move,” Lukashevich said.

On Wednesday, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said that the bloc was undergoing its largest troop increase since the Cold War ended.

In February, NATO said that its Response Force, stationed close to Russia in Eastern Europe, will more than double to include 30,000 military personnel.

The nearly year-long conflict in southeast Ukraine has served as a justification for NATO expansion in Eastern Europe. The military bloc, along with its political and economic counterparts, claims Moscow is involved in the ongoing fighting.

Russia has expressed concern over NATO expansion in the East, and over the buildup of NATO forces along its borders amid the Ukrainian conflict.

Dozens of Foreign Troops Disembark at Yemeni Aden Port - Reports

Dozens of foreign troops reportedly disembarked at the Yemeni Aden port hours after Houthi rebels advanced into the southern Yemeni city.

Earlier Saudi-led coalition which has been trying to stop Houthi advances said it controls the waters around Aden.

“The number of troopers who landed in the Yemeni Aden port is unknown, but we are talking about dozens. They were covered by several airplanes. They disembarked from Saudi and Egyptian ships,” Ahmad Al-Shami, a member of Ansar Allah movement, told Sputnik. “If it is preparation for the ground operation, we would meet them with fire,” he added. Member of the Houthi political council Daifullah Shami also confirmed to Sputnik that the foreign soldiers had disembarked from Saudi and Egyptian vessels. As the fighting in the city of Aden continues, conflicting media reports are emerging with officials loyal to Hadi denying the information that foreign ground troops had disembarked at the port. houthni “All ships carrying humanitarian aid forbidden to approach the coast of Yemen, the airspace is also closed,” he noted. A member of Ansar Allah suggested two explanations why the foreign troops disembarked in Aden. “The first one, the most welcome for us, is that soldiers landed to protect and to evacuate their citizens from Aden. The second one is that they are really preparing for a ground operaion, but we are ready to repel any attack,” Ahmad Al-Shami said. yemm The Houthis control almost everything in Aden except for oil refineries and road junction that are controlled by the Yemeni government forces, he said. Earlier Thursday fightings between Houthi rebels and forces loyal to President Hadi have intensified in the Yemeni Aden port. Bodies were lying in the street, according to eyewitnesses. Meanwhile, at least 44 people were killed, including 18 civilians, as fierce fighting continues in the area.

Last week, an international coalition headed by Saudi Arabia launched a military operation against Houthi positions in Yemen following a request for military support from Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

The Houthis have recently taken control of the Yemeni capital Sanaa, forcing the elected president to flee the country, and making rapid advances into other cities.

Foreign countries and international organizations, including the United Nations, have been evacuating their citizens and staff from Yemen amid the intensified conflict.

President Goodluck Jonathan is not the True Hero Of Nigerian Democracy!

The revisionist historians of Nigeria have attempted since Tuesday of this week to rewrite the true account of the recent history of the Nigerian democracy since General Muhammadu Buhari won the presidential election by calling the outgoing Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, the true hero of the Nigerian democracy.
gej0

President Goodluck Jonathan is not, will not, cannot and will never be the real hero of the Nigerian democracy for the following reasons. Firstly, the Ekitigate scandal that was directly engineered and supported with the federal might from the Aso Rock villa was an electoral fraud by this federal government of Nigeria against the constitutional rights of the voters of Ekiti State of Nigeria. This development cannot make Goodluck Jonathan, the hero of our democracy in Nigeria.Secondly, the invasion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) office in Lagos by the federal government through the DSS violated the constitution of Nigeria. Thirdly, the bribing of the Yoruba Obas, Afenifere elders and Gani Adams of the militant OPC with the Nigerian tax payers money and contract by this President cannot be a democratic practice in all reality.

Fourthly, the use of the Nigerian military to intimidate opposition politicians across Nigeria during presidential campaigns and in Imo and Rivers States of Nigeria in violation of the recent court order that banned the use of the Nigerian military to conduct the elections in Nigeria was an anti-democratic act in all ramifications and the violation of the rule of law. The highly divisive utterances that came out of the mouths of Mama Peace, Asari Dokubo and many supporters of this President that were allowed to go on unchecked by this President can never make him the real hero of the Nigerian democracy, Fifthly, the use of the military and security agents to rig the presidential election in the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria by preventing the APC supporters from voting and by manipulating the votes to reflect 100% voting turnout and pattern for this President will never be make him the true hero of democracy in Nigeria today, tomorrow and in the future.

Meet the The 6 Wise Men Who Made BUHARI’s Victory Possible

The brains behind Muhammadu Buhari’s triumph is underlined by the way that this will be the first in the historical backdrop of Nigeria’s discretionary procedure when an officeholder president is crushed.
six_wise_men

It was no little deed that was accomplished by a portion of the nation’s most noticeable political figures. Dapo Akinrefon revealed.

1. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu ( The Jagaban)

The former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is considered a master political strategist who guided Buhari’s aspiration to a success at the party’s national convention last year.

Tinubu was able to ensure that not only did Buhari get the block vote of the Southwest, but also ensured that many states outside the region that did not have governors in the contest supported Buhari.

After the nomination convention, Tinubu together with likeminded party members was able to weave a formidable campaign machine that put Buhari to victory. Reflective of Tinubu’s imprint in the victory was the fact that Buhari in his last three runs never made an impression in the Southwest, a region he swept last weekend with victories in five of the six states.

Despite the lures and lashes from the opposition, Tinubu stood firm in an unwavering support for Buhari that proved crucial in achieving victory.

2. Governor Chibuke Amaechi

Governor Amaechi ably steered the Buhari campaign in such a way that brought the old candidate into reckoning in ways he never had been before. The governor’s input was there in the transformation of the general in his dressing and approach to campaign.

The governor was in direct control of strategy and deployment of personnel at the campaign headquarters. He was also believed to be involved in the indirect talks with some major political players who helped to ensure the victory of the general at both the nomination convention and the general election.

3. Senator Bukola Saraki

Senator Bukola Saraki who served as governor of Kwara State before going to the Senate was also instrumental to the victory. His deployment of political and other resources not only helped in the general’s sweep of Kwara State, but also in forming bonds with other major political players in the country.

4. President Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is perceived another influential personality to Buhari’s ascendancy to Aso Rock. President Obasanjo’s behind the door counsel and patronage of Team Buhari was an open secret. He demonstrated so even in the days before the election was postponed last February when he went on an international circuit to launch his recently released book, My Watch.

He also met with market leaders in his Abeokuta office where he gave them counsel on how to vote.

However, the most strategic role President Obasanjo may have played is believed to have been in bringing international focus on Nigeria in such a way that put the defeated president in a cul de sac on allowing his subordinates to manipulate the results.

5. Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may not have been seen regularly on the podium pushing for Buhari, but he was a main backer in terms of resources. Once he lost the ticket to Buhari, Atiku pushed his structure including his savvy media team headed by Mallam Garba Shehu to Buhari’s use.

The team proved to be a torn in the flesh of Candidate Goodluck Jonathan.

6. APC GOVERNORS

All the APC governors without exception backed the general. Though two of them, Al Makura in Nasarawa and Adams Oshiomhole in Edo were not able to deliver their states to Buhari, but the efforts they made was undeniable. Oshiomhole was especially a thorn in the flesh of Camp Jonathan in the last few days.

“Elections will not happen in some states because of the frequent attacks. This could affect between three to four states. The states would be a no-go area due to violence and elections would not take place in those states unless we move closer to God. We must intensify our prayers. This is what God has showed me and you can imagine what would happen if elections don’t hold in those states. It would have great implication for our democracy.

Howbeit, it will be a battle between the lion and the tiger…Shortly after the election, especially on the night of the election, there will be great vandalisation. I see cars being burnt, lives killed.”

Primate Ayodele is known for his widely-controversial prophecies. The popular founder of Inri Evangelical Spiritual Church went as far as recommending a 14 days prayer for President Goodluck Jonathan to have a ‘peaceful elections.’

This is our New Year message.  Listen, when you go home, tell anybody you see that from the oracle of the Holy Spirit, we are announcing change

The Goodluck met Yar’Adua and Yar’Adua died. Before you know it, the Goodluck met our oil and the oil had a bad luck and poured away, before we knew it, the Goodluck met our naira, our naira had a bad luck. Where are we going? What is the fate of this country? Shall we continue like this, we need change”

“God told me that they are going to rig the election and this will cause an upheaval and the results of the election will not be declared and if the result is declared, the winners of the election will not govern. But my advice to our politicians is that they should let the President Jonathan go peacefully and retired to his village.”

* Prophet Anthony Nwoko

As if the mockery of priesthood wasnt yet enough, Prophet Anthony Nwoko, A popular Enugu based prophet who had also in 1998 prophesied that late Gen. Sani Abacha, would leave government of Nigeria in a mysterious way, briefed journalists in Enugu on the state of the nation, stating that neither Jonathan nor Buhari will win.

*****

“Neither Jonathan nor Buhari will be president after the election. I told Nigerians that they should not expect much or any miracle from Jonathan. Now, in this coming election, Jonathan will only serve as John the Baptist and Buhari has not got any heavenly crown to rule and he will not rule this country because he hasn’t got that crown.

“Don’t take my prophesies for granted because  I had also told Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar(rtd) not to make Olusegun Obasanjo president and I had also warned Obasanjo not to make late Umaru Yar’Adua president and my advice was not heeded and you saw what happened,  I can see the glory of Nigeria in the Southeast, An igbo president and I don’t agree with Wole Soyinka that Jonathan is Nebucadnezar, Jonathan is a forerunner to the glory of God.”

Jonathan had never lost any election in his life. Buhari had never won any election in his life. Jonathan’s rise to the Presidency was not his making. It was simply an act of God. Buhari forced himself into power via the military coup. He has failed in four previous attempts. The last time he failed, he wept. This time will not be different. He is accustomed to failing and failure is his second name. Come Saturday, bring out your PVC and make him cry again. We are moving forward in this country. We can’t afford to put our vehicle on the reverse gear.

Dear readers, I am not here to judge but to provide a yard stick with which we can measure the veracity and authenticity of certain prophetic uttrances from the men standing behind the pulpit.

Police nab 65-year-old man for defiling girl, eight

The Police in Edo State have arrested a 65-year-old man for allegedly defiling a eight-year-old girl at Iyaro, Egor Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Olowoeheri, was said to have lured his victim behind the park of a private transport company in Benin, where he had carnal knowledge of her on March 10, an allegation Olowoeheri denied.

He said, “I only carried her on my lap and called her my wife. I have carried her before. But she told her mother that I defiled her.”

‎But the Police Commissioner, Mr. Samuel Adegbuyi, who paraded the suspect at the state police headquartres ‎in Benin, said ‎the suspect, who was arrested following a report at the family unit of the command, had “made useful statement to the police.”

‎”On March 10, a case of defilement was reported at family unit against one Christopher Olowoeri aged 60 years old, who had carnal knowledge of an 8-year-old girl behind Goddy Edosa Motor Park at Iyaro, Benin City.

“The suspect has been arrested and he had made useful statement to the police. Meanwhile the case is still under investigation.”

Meanwhile, the state command has said no fewer than eight persons were arrested for various electoral offences during last Saturday’s presidential and national assembly elections held in the state.

Adegbuyi, however, explained that the Independent National Electoral Commission had the “sole responsibility” to prosecute them, at the conclusion of investigation.

“As of now, we are having about eight suspects arrested in connection with electoral offences. Investigations are ongoing.

“At the end of our investigation, the relevant case files will be forwarded through the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5,‎ for further necessary actions,” he added.

Rivers lifts curfew, calls for peaceful coexistence

The Rivers State Government on Thursday lifted the curfew it had imposed on the state after last Saturday’s Presidential election.

The announcement which was made in a statement signed by the secretary to the administration, George Feyii, said the directive was with immediate effect.

“The general public is hereby informed that the dusk-to-dawn curfew declared by the state government earlier in the week has been lifted with immediate effect. “Consequently, residents in the state are free to go about their lawful duties and continue to keep peace at all times,” Feyii said in the statement.

Panic and anxiety greeted most parts of Port Harcourt, the capital, earlier on Monday, March 30, 2015, when the curfew was first imposed by the government. Motorists and many of the state’s residents who got the announcement late, hurried to their destinations for fear of being punished by law enforcement agents.

The curfew, while still effective, lasted between 7:00pm and 6:00am. Rivers was among states across the country which witnessed violence and destruction of lives and properties during last weekend’s crucial polls and the immediate imposition of the curfew by the government is believed to have curbed the further spread of disorderliness.

Nigerian to die in Indonesia for drug trafficking

Local media report on Thursday in Jakarta, said another Nigerian, Simon Ezeaputa, has been sentenced to death in Indonesia for drug trafficking.

It said the district court in Tangerang, near Jakarta, on Wednesday found Ezeaputa guilty of controlling a drug transaction from his prison cell, where he was serving a 20-year jail term for drug offences.  The report said the transaction involved 350 grams of crystal methamphetamine.

With the latest development, more than 60 people are on death row in Indonesia for drug offences. The report said Indonesia executed six drug convicts in January and was preparing to put to death another 10 death-row inmates.  It said these include two Australians who have been the subject of a diplomatic row between Jakarta and Canberra.

Meanwhile, the Amnesty International said in its annual report on the death penalty worldwide released on Wednesday that “Indonesia stood out for all the wrong reasons.”

Papang Hidayat, Head, Amnesty Researcher, Indonesia, said the death penalty was always a human rights violation. He said there were many issues in Indonesia, in particular fair trial concerns, that make death sentences more complicated.  Hidayat said investigations by human rights groups have found that individuals sentenced to death have been tortured and forced to sign police investigation reports.

APC congratulates Buhari, commends President Jonathan, Nigerians

The All Progressives Congress has congratulated Gen. Muhammadu Buhari for his historic victory in Saturday’s Presidential election, while thanking Nigerians for voting massively for the party to bring in a new dawn after a long dark night.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said Gen. Buhari’s victory will make Nigeria work again, rekindle hope and bring succour to the long suffering people of the country.

”Nigerians have used their votes to bring change. We hear their message loud and clear: They want a government that works, and will not hesitate to use the same votes to kick out any government that fails to deliver,” it said. APC also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the rare sportsmanship he exhibited by conceding defeat and congratulating Gen. Buhari, even before INEC formally declared him as the winner. The party said by that singular act, which went a long way in dousing post-election tension, the President has snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, written his name in gold in the annals of Nigeria’s history and catapulted himself to a statesman.

APC said it is time for all Nigerians, irrespective of their political leaning, to put the acrimonious electioneering campaign behind them and to forge a united front to tackle the enormous challenges facing the nation. ”The APC-led Federal Government will work for all Nigerians, whether or not they voted for us in the elections, or did not even vote at all,” the party assured. ”Our party will not discriminate against any Nigerian on the basis of religion, region, ethnicity or gender. We are all God’s own people.” APC said it will also appreciate a virile opposition, because it is indispensable in any democracy that is worthy of that nomenclature. ”

Having been in opposition ourselves, we know what it means to keep the government of the day on its toes with very robust and constructive criticism, and we expect no less from those who have swapped places with us,” the party said.

It commended the media for staying true to its constitutional watchdog role, saying without the support of this Fourth Estate of the Realm, Nigeria may neither have enjoyed democracy nor sustained it. APC thanked ECOWAS, the African Union, the EU, the UN and the entire international community for their support for the country’s democratisation process, describing as invaluable their role in the success of the ongoing political transition.
