Peter Clark, a retired detective constable with the UK Metropolitan Police, on Monday, told a federal capital territory (FCT), high court, sitting in Gudu, Abuja, that Joshua Dariye, a former governor of Plateau state, was still wanted in the United Kingdom for money laundering charges.

Dariye, who is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a 23-count charge bordering on money laundering and diversion of funds before Adebukola Banjoko, the judge, is alleged to have siphoned the state’s ecological fund to the tune of N1.162 billion.
Clark gave a blow-by-blow account of how foreign currencies were allegedly found on Dariye, who is now a serving senator, in September 2014, when the Nigerian politician was arrested at Marriott Hotel on George Street in the UK.

EFCC Invites Shekarau

The Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) has invited former Kano State governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau for questioning over N950 million campaign funds.
Shekarau, EFCC sources said, was expected to be at the commission by 10am today.
“Shekarau was invited and is expected to come to the commission’s office in Kano today (Tuesday), he had accepted that in his acknowledgement,” the sources said.
Shekarau, a former minister of education under the Jonathan administration, was invited in connection with the N23bn campaign funds scandal, said the source.

Clerk was testifying before Justice Adebukola Banjoko as the ninth prosecution witness in the trial of the former governor on charges of alleged diversion of about N1.162bn Ecological Fund meant for Plateau State in 2004.

EFCC Detains Fani-Kayode, Asks Him To Refund N840m

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Monday, detained a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, for allegedly receiving N840m from the party’s campaign funds.
The ex-minister, who arrived at the EFCC headquarters at about 9.45am, is currently being held at the anti-graft office for further investigations.

Fani-Kayode was accused of receiving the said amount from the Director of Finance of the campaign organisation, Senator Nenadi Usman, during the build-up to the 2015 election, which the Peoples Democratic Party lost to the All Progressives Congress.

It was gathered that the account with the United Bank for Africa titled Marecco Nigeria Limited with number 1000627022, was frozen as part of investigations into the N4bn disbursed by the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election. It would be recalled that Falae had received N100m on behalf of his party, but said he was not aware that the money belonged to the Government and it wasn’t a personal fund but something he got on behalf of his party.

CCT: Paul Erokoro Blasts FG ‘For Wasting Tribunal’s Time’

A mild drama took place at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on Tuesday as a counsel to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Paul Erokoro lambasted Federal Government’s lawyer for insisting that only one counsel should be allowed to cross examine a witness.
Saraki is standing trial on a 16-count charge of false assets declaration.

Erokoro said this while reacting to the submission of Federal Government’s lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, who condemned the trend where more than one defence lawyer keep cross-examining a particular witness.

Thugs Machete Task Force Officials In Lagos (photos)

SOME Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) officials were on Saturday stabbed with cutlasses and broken bottles by miscreants and illegal abattoir operators at Idi-Araba near Lawanson in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos.
