Niger Delta Avengers Are Criminals! - Ateke Tom says

The former Niger Delta war lord, Ateke Tom has warned the faceless newly formed Niger Delta Avengers to stop causing more harm to the region through their criminal activities, saying that attack on oil installations would only bring pains and suffering to the people of the region.

Ateke, while condemning the activities of the Avengers whom he described as desperate criminals said no Niger Delta youths would support any criminal act in the region.

According to a report by Calabar Reporters, the so-called wizard was spotted on the morning of May 12, flying through Calabar Highways. The alleged wizard was spotted at about 7:50am around the popular Culvert bus stop adjacent to Ikot Ansa bus stop, Murtala Mohammed Highway, Calabar, with a crowd around him. The man, who is between 40-60 years old was lying Unclad by the roadside. He was muttering incoherently with blood spots on his face and lips.

Lagos Now Officially An Oil Producing State- Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday declared that Lagos has officially joined the League of Oil Producing States in Nigeria following the discovery of crude oil by Tunde Folawiyo Petroleum Company Limited in Badagry, Lagos.

Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport To Be Closed, Says Minister

*Decries dilapidated infrastructure, says govt has no money to run airports

The Minister of State, for Aviation, Mr. Hadi Sirika, on Monday threatened to shut down flight operations into and out of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja ,because of dilapidated infrastructure that could compromise safety.

He said the several pot holes on the runway almost made him to close the airport, urging that that the airport will be closed down until the necessary things are put in place. He did not however say when the closure will be carried out.

Lack Of Funds May Stall Corps Members’ Mobilisation To Camp – NYSC

Brig.-Gen. Sulyman Kazaure, Director-General, National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), on Monday told the Senate that lack of funds may stall mobilising 2016 Batch A Stream 2 prospective corps members for orientation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that orientation for the batch is expected to commence on Friday in 37 camps across the country.

Kazaure told the Senate Committee on Sports in Abuja that the money required for the exercise was yet to be provided.

EFCC To Invite Former President Jonathan For Questioning Due To Evidence Against Him

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has disclosed that the agency was indeed probing and collating evidence against former president, Goodluck Jonathan and other accomplices in the arms purchase scandal. He stated this when he visited the office of the BBC Hausa service in London at the weekend.

Commotion At House Of Reps Over Kachikwu

There is commotion at the house of representatives at the moment.
Members of the house are divided over a motion to admit Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum, into the green chamber.
Kachikwu is expected to explain the reason for the hike in the price of petrol from N86.5 to N145.
Femi Gbajabiamila, leader of the house, had moved the motion for the lower legislative chamber to admit Kachikwu into its fold.

Man Kills His Baby At Umuchima, Imo While Beating His Wife


A Barber simply identified as Chinedu, has accidentally killed his baby after a fight erupted between him and his wife on Thursday Morning.

This happened at Umuchima Village, in Owerri West Local Government Area.
Umuchima is one of the villages, where off-campus lodges are located in IMO State, especially for students of from Federal University of Technology, Owerri and students of Federal Polytechnic Nekede.

Saraki Seeks More Powers For ECOWAS (photos)


Senate president Bukola Saraki has pushed for more powers for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, if the aim of the subregion to achieve full integration is to be realized.

Saraki made this statement while giving a speech at the opening of the First Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja. He said;

"The ECOWAS sub-region has come a long way in pursuit of integration and development. However, what is clear today is that we need to do more. Other regional bodies including those who we inspired have moved faster towards integration than we have.

House Of Reps Summons Ibe Kachikwu Over Fuel Subsidy Removal

The House of Representatives has cut short its resumption of plenary by one day — from Tuesday to Monday (today) — to take a position on the issue of the removal of the subsidy on petrol by the Federal Government.

The House summoned the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, on Sunday, to appear today and explain why the government jacked up the pump price of petrol to N145 from N86.50k. The minister is to address lawmakers at the session to be presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, beginning by 12pm.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday met briefly behind closed door with Rivers State Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike. The meeting which was held inside the President’s office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja did not last up to 30 minutes. Wike arrived for the meeting at about 2pm and left a few minutes after. The agenda of the meeting was not made public. The governor also did not speak with State House correspondents at the end of the short meeting. While Buhari belongs to the All Progressives Congress, Wike is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party. He has been having a running battle with his predecessor who is currently the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi. Amaechi who was the Director-General of Buhari’s campaign organisation has been accused of diverting the state’s fund when he was the governor to sponsor the APC campaign. The minister had since denied the allegation, insisting that he is not a corrupt government official.

Petrol: NANS Protest Peacefully In Owerri

The National Association of Nigerian Students, Imo State Chapter, has staged a peaceful protest against the recent hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also referred to as petrol by the Federal Government.

The youths in their numbers took to the streets of Owerri the capital of Imo State, causing heavy gridlock and carrying placards with various inscriptions.

Man with half-head complains after his £195 a week benefits is slashed and he is deemed fit to work (photos)


A man who had a portion of his head removed after suffering from stroke has complained and hit out at authorities, after his £195 per week benefits as a disabled person was slashed to £117 after he was told to go find a job as he is 'mentally capable' of working.

Kenny Bailey, 50, has been receiving £195 a week since his stroke in 2014 meant he was unable to work.

The pressure on Kenny's brain was so intense following his stroke that surgeons had to remove part of his skull to relieve it.

This is Russia's Response to NATO’s Activities Near Its Border


NATO is continuing its military buildup along Russia’s borders. However, Russia is responding to every step the alliance takes by deploying new defensive weapons at its borders.
