As a result of the successful containment effort championed by President Goodluck Jonathan of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease, India has duplicated the surveillance and tracking system of Nigeria to protect the country from any future Ebola outbreak.
In an official statement on Tuesday, India’s Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said his country put in preparedness measures to deal with any outbreak of Ebola by upgrading its equipment and the training of health staff to strengthen their health system. According to him, the thermal scanners, which helped Nigeria overcome the disease, have been provided to most of the 15 major airports. “India already has a highly-rated integrated disease surveillance network,” Vardhan added.
President Jonathan urges Nigerians to continue the preventive measures implemented in the successful control of the disease, despite being declared free of the disease by the World Health Organization.
