Highly transmittable avian influenza, Bird flu now in 7 states in Nigeria - FG

The Federal government says the profoundly transmittable avian flu viral ailment otherwise called Bird influenza (Bird flu) has spread to five more states asides Lagos and Kaduna where the first cases were recorded in Nigeria.

The states with the most recent instances of the sickness in poultry creatures inlcude Ogun, Delta, Rivers, Edo and Plateau states.


Talking at a public interview today in Abuja, the Minister of Agriculture, Akinwunmi Adeshina said 15 business homesteads and 9 live fowl Markets have been influenced by the sickness in the five states.


He expressed that the malady has not arrived at a pestilence state in Nigeria and that everything is being carried out to contain its spread in the nation.


“We are not in a state of any epidemic. Seven states have so far reported cases of the bird flu – Kano, Lagos, Ogun, Delta, Rivers, Edo and Plateau States. The most affected state has been Kano, where the initial case of the bird flu was found. In all of these states, different levels of interventions, including depopulation, decontamination and quarantine are currently ongoing.”he said 103,445 birds have supposedly been exposed  to the contamination in Kano State, with 15,963 (15 %) mortality reported, while 31,195 and 3,347 (11%) mortality has been accounted for in Lagos State.
