The northern socio-political organisation, the Arewa Consultative Forum, on Wednesday in Kaduna berated President Goodluck Jonathan for the current state of the nation a few days to the end of his administration.
ACF noted that the current energy crisis, coupled with persistent insecurity in the country, was a deliberate and calculated attempt by Jonathan to hinder the smooth take off of the Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
According to ACF, the President’s latest posture towards the masses in the face of the energy crisis, which has paralised the country, is morally wrong.
It said the President’s action and inactions at this critical period, negated the earlier stance of Jonathan as a statesman.
ACF, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim, argued that Nigerians didn’t deserve the hardships they were being made to go through at the moment.
“Nigerians do not deserve such a parting gift from President Jonathan after he has earned himself a global applause for statesmanship,” the statement said.
Specifically, the body knocked the outgoing President for his recent penchant for sacking, and making frivolous appointments a few days to the end of his administration.
According to the Forum, the actions and inactions of the Jonathan’s administration in the last two months is worrisome.
ACF said, “Few days to the handover of government to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, Arewa Consultative Forum and indeed Nigerians are worried and disturbed at the rate the Nigerian state is being grounded by actions and inactions of the outgoing Jonathan’s administration.
“After President Jonathan conceded defeat to Buhari, he has, on every occasion, pledged to cooperate with Gen Buhari to ensure a smooth transition.
“However, ACF has observed with dismay the actions and inactions of the Jonathan’s administration in the last two months, which has failed to make the transition smooth as promised.
“President Jonathan’s recent knack for sacking aides, chief executives, making frivolous appointments, awarding contracts and revoking or even relocating some projects at this zero hour of his administration, is morally wrong and a negation of his earlier statesman posture.
“In fact, the situation is terrible, worrisome and capable of shutting down the country. Certainly, Nigerians do not deserve such a parting gift from President Jonathan after he has earned himself a global applause for statesmanship.
“All these unwarranted hardship, including the persistent insecurity and many others, which the outgoing regime will bequeath to Gen Buhari, appear to be deliberate and calculated to hinder the smooth take off of the new administration.
“The damage done to all facets of our national live in the last six years is so grave and will require patience on the part of Nigerians and wisdom on the part of Gen Buhari’s administration to tackle.”
