• Suspect Jumps Into Lagoon
There was pandemonium at the premises of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday as two suspects standing trial for alleged illicit dealing in narcotics attempted to escape after their arraignment.

Specifically, the suspects: Enitan Ibrahim, standing trial over illegal dealing in 600 gramms of cannabis; and Kehinde Ogunmola, were brought to court by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and arraigned before Justice Musa Kurya over alleged illicit dealing in cocaine and heroine.
After their arraignment, the suspects were ordered to be remanded in prison custody.
Trouble however started when one of the NDLEA officials, who brought the accused persons to court, noticed an attempt by the suspects to escape.
After the arraignment and remand order. The official, simply identified as Gila Moses, had attempted to sign the remand papers at the court registry when the two suspects took to their heels.
The security details attached to the court pursued one of the suspects while Moses pursued the other.
The suspect pursued by Moses had jumped into the Lagos lagoon very close to the Federal High Court complex on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi and attempted to escape via the waterside.
But Moses pursued him into the lagoon and shot into the air to scare the suspect.
While recounting his ordeal, the officer said: “I was in the process of signing the remand warrant of the suspects when I noticed that they were making moves to escape.
“Before I could turn, I saw them running away and I immediately pursued them.
“The security details in court helped me pursue one of them, while I pursued the other who was already running towards the waterside,” the gallant officer, who equally jumped into the lagoon, stated.
After the suspects were re-arrested, they told people in court who had gathered that they were afraid of going to prison.
One of them said: “I was afraid, because when we got to the court, we saw that another suspect who stood trial on similar crime was given heavy sentence.
“I don’t know that drug crime is a serious crime and that was why I attempted to escape.”
