The leakage of the secret visit of former first lady, Hajia Turai Yar’adua to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to a section of the media has embarrassed and angered him.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that to avoid public attention, Obasanjo had taken her outside his Hilltop Mansion in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

A source close to Obasanjo told Nigerian Pilot that the visit was to be a top secret away from the media and security personnel in Obasanjo’s house. It was gathered that the former President became infuriated on seeing the report on an online medium and has continued to point accusing finger at the businessman, Kenny Martins, who reportedly facilitated and accompanied Turai to Obasanjo’s house.
Yar’adua’s widow visited Obasanjo on Saturday in company of the businessman and his daughter Zainab who is the wife of former Governor of Kebbi State, Saidu Dakingari.
Turai’s daughter has been under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged N2billion fraud perpetrated during her husband’s tenure.
Zainab was questioned and released by EFCC agents on July 22.
Sources at Obasanjo house said that the visit was to be a secret one as many security operatives on duty on Saturday could not affirm the visit.
This development has also continued to fuel speculations that Obasanjo must have met the former first lady at his Presidential Library and not in his house.
The Source further said that the woman must have been smuggled into the meeting and was attended by not more than four people including the visitors and Obasanjo.
The source said the outcome of the meeting must have been divulged to the media by Martins because of the accuracy of what was discussed at the meeting as reported by the online medium.
“It is true that she visited on Saturday,” another aide to Obasanjo said. “I don’t know exactly what she discussed with Baba (Obasanjo). But I think it is safe to say she came to greet him and discuss issues relevant to the two families.”
It was also gathered that three vehicles whose occupants could not be ascertained by the operatives on duty left the house by 8am on Saturday before Obasanjo left for the library.
Apart from the issue of Turai’s daughter, other matters discussed as reported by the media was for the former first lady to thank Obasanjo for deeming his late husband worthy of the prestigious position of the President.
It was also reported that the former first lady apologised to Obasanjo to overlook any wrongdoing his family might have committed against him during their short reign in Aso Rock.
Recently, Obasanjo had given late Yar’adua a clean bill of health on corruption, the same reason he cited for his resolve to choose the deceased as his successor.
He was however critical of Yar’Adua administration’s reversal of the sale of the country’s refineries by his administration.
