A former Minister of Defence, Prince Tokunbo Kayode, SAN, on Monday disclosed his plan to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for another political platform which he has not disclosed.
Kayode, who was also the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, disclosed his plan in Akure, Ondo State, in a keynote address he delivered at the opening of the Week of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Ondo State chapter.
The former minister, whose address was read by Dr Sunday Kayode, said while he would continue to contribute to the development of his environment and the state, he would not be interested in seeking any political office.
“I will continue to stand, not for any political office; I don't have the stomach for that, not any more. But even as I change my political platform, a move which is already in process, I will continue to concentrate on my law practice and business and do projects that will help the public, women and children.
“ And for the women of Ondo state and Nigeria, I will continue to support the proper articulation of the power and right of women politician who wishes to win any election”, Kayode stated.
Describing the theme for the 2015 FIDA Week : “Advancing Women Participation in National Development” as apt, Kayode said the theme represents what FIDA had been doing in the past and what the organisation can still do.
While mentioning names of Nigerian women that had held various political and civil service, Kayode said Nigeria’s democracy recognises the importance of the participation of women in Nation Building and National Development.
Kayode said tthe major way to enhance the participation of women in National Development is for organizations such as FIDA and others to continue with more concrete, strategic and critical advocacy based on equality, adequate participation and consultation.
