Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will take back its inheritance from the ruling All progressives Congress (APC).
Fayose, who led five PDP governors to an interdenominational thanksgiving service to celebrate the validation of Udom Emmanuel’s election as governor of Akwa Ibom state, said the current generation of PDP will make a difference.
“If we put our house together, if we stay together, if we put the past behind us, we will take back our inheritance, it is our inheritance taken by deception, taken by propaganda, taken by hidden agenda,” he said.
“I want to felicitate, I want to rejoice, I want to stand up and say congratulations to my brother the young dynamic, energetic governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr Udom Emmanuel. Congratulations! You don’t need anyone to tell you or tell us that you are loved, and this is the home of PDP.
“We are in the both together, we will stand by you, we will win together with you, all of us in this generation of PDP will make a difference, it is a time to reflect and after the reflection we are going to take our inheritance back.
“When I got into this premises and I saw this crowd, I don’t know how they could have explained, I don’t know what the situation would have been in this state if it had gone otherwise, but in every situation we have to bless the living God that it did not go the other way, because the power of the people is greater than those of us in power. For whatever we do, the people come first.
“The Lord will bless the people of Akwa Ibom, the Lord will be with you, on behalf of my other governors, I say congratulations.”
Uche Secondus, acting national chairman of the PDP, said if not for God, the enemies would have rejoiced over his party.
Secondus said Nigerians were in dire need of the PDP, saying the economy had taken a downward turn barely eight months after the former ruling party lost power at the centre.
“On behalf of our party, the national working party, we are here in the name of God to dedicate this victory to God. The victory in Akwa Ibom, the victory in Abia, Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta,” he said.
“The psalmist says if it had not been the Lord who had been for us, we all know what would have happened; the enemies would have wished to conquer all these states that I have mentioned but God’s will will always prevail.
“Nigeria is in dire need of PDP, you can see the difference. Eight months ago, the exchange rate was N160, today it is N313. Eight months ago, vessels of goods and services were competing to enter into our harbor. Today, none. The economy is sliding; it is getting to a point of collapse. The political situation of the country is in coma and we challenge the APC-led government that it is time to realize that they need the people more than they need the guns because we are not military. We dedicate today to God to the strength that he has given PDP.
“PDP will come back with strength and we warn the APC led government that Nigeria should not be a police state where people are harassed and stake holders are being intimidated.”
