Woman bags 4 years in jail for slitting her 12-year-old niece's neck and hand, with a blade

Funmi Otitoloju was arrested for allegedly brutalising her 12-year-old niece, Adeola, at their home in Baiyeku, Ikorodu, Lagos. She allegedly used a razor blade to cut the girl in the neck and hand because she entered other people’s apartments without her permission.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at about 6am, after which a Good Samaritan rushed Adeola to a general hospital. It was learnt that a neighour had reported to Otitoloju that Adeola stole from her room. However, when the neighbour was queried on what Adeola stole, she could not answer.

Otitoloju reportedly punished Adeola after her landlady also came to report that she sneaked into her apartment. The hospital refused to treat Adeola insisting on a police report. A worker with the Child Protection Network was said to have been invited and the worker reported the matter to the police.

The police, thereafter, arrested Otitoloju, while Adeola was treated at the hospital. The primary 3 pupil, has now been taken into government’s custody. In court, Otitoloju pleaded guilty to the charges and Magistrate, Mrs. A.A. Oshoniyi, sentenced her to four years imprisonment with no option of fine. Cc: Punchng
