Justices sacked for stopping EFCC from investigating Odua and calling for Gov. Aregbe's impeachment

 The National Judicial Council, NJC, has sacked Justices Mohammed Yunusa of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court and Olamide Oloyede of the Osun State High Court. Yunusa was dismissed for engaging in judicial misconduct and reckless abuse of judicial powers.



He was found to have recklessly granted interlocutory injunctions the judicial body considered “embarrassing” to the justice sector and the anti-corruption crusade. He was alleged to have granted an order of perpetual injunction that stopped EFCC, from investigating or arresting some allegedly corrupt public officers.

Prominent among the instances cited included a case involving former Minister of Aviation and current representative for Anambra North Senatorial District, Senator Stella Oduah. .

Yunusa is also a subject of investigation by the EFCC following an alleged suspicious transactions between him and some senior lawyers. He was named as a major recipient of bribe from Rickey Tarfa, SAN, who is presently facing trial.

On her part, Justice Oloyede was said to have been sacked for petitioning the Osun State House of Assembly, in 2015, seeking the impeachment of Gov. Aregbesola who she said was corrupt. NJC said that her conduct was anti-judicial and recommended to the Osun State government to immediately send her on a compulsory retirement.
