Syrian Army foils massive ISIS attack in Deir Ezzor

DEIR EZZOR, SYRIA (8:00 A.M.) - One day after seizing large parts of Jufrah Farms, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched a wide-scale offensive in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, targeting the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) controlled districts and military sites.

ISIS began their assault by storming the last farms under the Syrian Army's control at Jufrah; this resulted in an intense series of clashes that lasted for more than 6 hours on Saturday.

However, as dusk approached Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army's 71st Regiment and 123rd Brigade were able to beat back the Islamic State militants and reestablish control over the points they lost to the terrorists on Friday.

Meanwhile, at the eastern flank of the Al-Sina'a District, the Islamic State attempted to recapture the points they lost to the Syrian Armed Forces last week; however, this attack would ultimately fail, as the Qassem Units (Special Forces) foiled the terrorist infiltration from Hawija Al-Saqr.

According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Armed Forces killed over 30 Islamic State terrorists on Saturday, including several foreign combatants from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Malaysia, Libya, and Iraq.

In addition to killing over 30 terrorists, the Syrian Armed Forces also destroyed 4 armored vehicles that were mounted with 23 mm anti-aircraft machine guns.
