TRAGEDY! 31-Year-Old Man Drowns In Ogun River During Police Raid


A 31-year-old man, Gafar Ajibola, has been killed after drowning in Ogun River in Abeokuta during an alleged police raid.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, ‎threw the Oriyanrin community into mourning and palpable tension.



Ajibola, an artisan, was said to be washing some of his clothes at the river bank when policemen allegedly searching for hoodlums stormed area.

New Telegraph learnt that possibly out of fear and to escape the wrath of the security operatives who were reportedly shooting sporadically, the man jumped into the river.
Family members told our correspondent that after a spirited search, Gafar’s body was found some metres away from the river bank.

‎At the family house of the deceased, emotion ran high as sympathisers who thronged the place lamented Gafar’s untimely death.

Speaking with reporters, an uncle of the deceased expressed shock at the demise of Gafar and blamed the police for the loss.
