President-Elect's May 29 Pronouncements will Surprise Nigerians - APC Chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom, Inibehe Okori has said that President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari would shock Nigerians with his pronouncements on May 29, 2015, the day of his introduction.  Boss Okori, who was the APC candidate for the Akwa Ibom North-West senatorial region, additionally said that Buhari would demonstrate to Nigerians and the global community that corruption could be checked in the nation.  Okori put forth the expressions on Sunday, May 3, while talking in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom.

Many Rescued Girls From Boko Haram terrorist Camp Are Pregnant – UNFPA

According to reports, a large number of girls rescued from Boko Haram have been found to be pregnant.  This revelation was reportedly made on Sunday, May 3, by the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Babatunde Osotimehin.

According to Vanguard, unofficial reports put the number of visibly pregnant girls at 214.


Osotimehin is said to have given the indication while providing updates on the response to the rehabilitation of the rescued women and children,  said the organization.

“What we found is that some of the women and girls that have come back actually have much more in terms of the stress they have faced, so the counselling has to be more intense and working with them one-on-one,” he said.

“I’m glad the communities are not excommunicating them and are taking them back. That is an important therapy too. We anticipate this is going to escalate because the military intervention is continuing, we find that more people are now needing our services and we will continue,” he added.

“Beyond that, in the growing young people, we will always have pregnant women, but nobody segregates the needs of the pregnant women which are very important and different from the needs of the average community. We look after them, and ensure they get antenatal care and that they deliver properly and that they even get Caesarean Section when necessary,” Osotimehin said.

He also stated that the organization in collaboration with the Federal and state governments had undertaken the enormous task of restoring the dignity of the girls, who, he said, are facing severe psychosocial trauma.

Never before seen types of military hardware, including new Armata main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, will be showcased during the Moscow Victory Day Parade on May 9.

The Russian Defense Ministry posted on its website photos of its latest, most advanced models of military hardware that will be displayed in the Moscow Victory Day Parade on May 9.

On the website one can see high-resolution photographs of the new Armata Main Battle Tank, the Armata infantry fighting vehicle on the new-platform, Koalitsiya-SV self-propelled howitzer, and the Kurganets-25 infantry fighting vehicle, also based on the Armata platform.

Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said the upcoming Victory Parade, marking the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Army’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, will be the largest in Russia’s recent history. Over 15,000 personnel and about 200 pieces of military equipment will be on display, including weaponry never before seen by the public.The Russian Defense Ministry has previously confirmed that it will roll out a new-generation Armata tank with an unmanned remotely-controlled turret.

This year’s premieres include high-end armored personnel carriers, high-precision artillery systems, as well as the famous Sukhoi Su-30 and Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets. The historical part of the march-by will feature the legendary T-34 tanks, the mainstay of the Red Army in the 1940s.

Enugu officials begin indictment process against Governor Chime

One more day, another Gov trying to be impeached. Individuals from the Enugu State House of Assembly at the beginning of today started denunciation procedures against the Governor of the state, Sullivan Chime.

The speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Eugene Odo read a notice of impeachment against Chime in a sitting in the house early at the beginning of today May 4th. 13 other Assembly members bolstered the denunciation procedures while 8 didn’t and endeavored to denounce the Speaker. Details later.

Former Minister of Education and convener of the Bringbackourgirls group, Oby Ezekwesili was a guest on Al-jazeerah’s Hardtalk which aired on Friday May 1st and it has got many people on social media talking.

Many believe she responded very intelligently throughout the interview but expressed their reservations regarding her response when she was asked if the administration of her former boss, Olusegun Obasanjo who she served under as Minister of Education was as corrupt as what many have described it to be.

According to Oby Ezekwesili, Obasanjo’s government was not as corrupt as the government of Late Sani Abacha

“There was no way it could have been more corrupt that the government of Abacha. I am sorry” she said

Asked what she makes of the Wikileaks report that quoted former EFCC Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu telling the US Ambassador in 2007 that although in the Abacha days, only Abacha was the sole thief in his government, in the Obasanjo administration, everyone was a thief, Oby Ezekwesili replied

“The next person you should invite to your show should be Nuhu Ribadu. Its not about rejecting his views. I don’t have counter-factory evidence on the basis to reject it”she said

Asked how corrupt is former President Obasanjo is in her view, she said
“Is that supposed to be a question on the basis of some factual thing that you are putting before me? My sense of President Obasanjo was that he gave me the freedom to define the work that I did that public procurement was more transparent than it used to be”she said

According to Dr Ezekwesili, the Obasanjo administration had some corruption challenges and as the President then, Obasanjo was aware of the elements of corruption

“He was aware of the elements of corruption and it was his responsibility to tackle those issues of corruption. We tackled corruption but we didn’t succeed fully. We didn’t” she said.

Dr Ezekwesili later said she will be reacting later today to all the rumbles that her interview has

caused.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 arraigned one Oladepo Bamidele Osibeluwo before Justice Augustine Odukwo of the Akwa Ibom State High Court Uyo, on one count charge of stealing to the tune of N4,623, 600.00


The accused, who was employed as Regional Sales Manager by Topcare Nigeria Limited, a pharmaceutical company, sometime in 2011, allegedly sold some pharmaceutical products worth N4,623, 600.00

The complainant, however, said the accused could not give proper account of the sales recorded. The charge reads: “ That you Oladepo Bamidele Osibeluwo being an employee of Topcare Nigeria Limited, Uyo, sometime in September 2011, within the Uyo Judicial Division, did steal the sum of Four Million, Six Hundred and Twenty Three Thousand, Six Hundred Naira only (N4,623, 600.00), being sales of drugs, property of Topcare Nigeria Limited and thereby committed an offence of stealing contrary to Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code CAP 38 Vol. II Laws of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria 2000.” The accused pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.Following his plea, the prosecution counsel, M. T. Iko, prayed the court for a date to enable him present his witnesses for the commencement of trial. However, the defense counsel, Nse Williams, urged the court to grant the accused bail.After listening to counsel, Justice Augustine said the case should be transferred to an administrative judge for re-assignment on the grounds that only courts 5 and 6 in the State High Court, Uyo Judicial Division handle criminal cases. Justice Augustine refused the accused bail and ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody.

70 reported dead in Taraba state

No less than 70 persons were said to have lost their lives and a few others injured in discrete assaults in Karim Lamido and Takum Local Government Areas of Taraba State within the previous couple of days.


It was claimed that 27 individuals were executed in Karim-Lamido LGA taking after a backlash by the military. We gathered  that suspected Fulani gunmen trapped and killed six soldiers while three were said to be missin two days ago when the gunmen  assaulted the fighters between Amar and Kambari town of Karim Lamido LGA.

Akinwole later told our correspondent on the telephone that those who attacked him were sent by a former commissioner from Ife.  He said he had been told that he would not be allowed to collect the certificate of return.

 He said,

”I was attacked by some boys who said the former commissioner  had said I should not be allowed to take the certificate.  I was told he asked them to shoot me if I insisted on collecting it.

 “I was attacked while coming out of the INEC office and they tore my clothes. The policemen who were there tried to rescue me and I was ferried out of the place in the Speaker’s car.”

The Murder of a Pregnant Woman Leads to Chaos in Ogun State

Angry supporters took to the street in Arepo area of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State to protest the killing of a 25-year-old pregnant woman identified as Damilola Fajana and some other persons in a clash between men of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, and some suspected vandals.


It was gathered that the traditional ruler of the community, Oba Solomon Atanda led the protest which started on Friday through Saturday.

It will be recalled that the pregnant woman and two other persons lost their lives in a clash between men of the Oodua People’s Congress who were employed by the Federal Government to oversee the protection of pipelines, and some youths suspected to be pipeline vandals. Damilola, who was six months pregnant, fell to a stray bullet while in her car. The angry protesters were said to have blocked the main entrance into the community for about one hour.

Some of the placards displayed reads, “We are under attack in Arepo”, “Arepo, no longer safe”, “and OPC limit your operations to the creek ”and“ President, save our souls in Arepo, please”.

The protesters called for a proper training for members of OPC as that will help to eradicate unnecessary bloodshed.
