APC Can Still Win Bayelsa Governorship - Frank

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has said that the party can still win the governorship election in Bayelsa State if all stakeholders close ranks ahead of the rescheduled poll.
The Bayelsa- born politician believes that the votes from Southern local government area could send the APC into a victory party.

Corruption Probes Not Needed Now - Kukah

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Mathew Hassan-Kukah has said the ongoing fight against corruption is not what the country yearns for at this time when the basic governance issues and challenges were yet to be overcome.
He said there is no end in sight in the investigation against corrupt officers, since corruption does to only stop at stealing, but involves other day-to-day actions of individuals.

The 20th Olu of Warri, Ikenwoli Gbesimi Emiko 1, was on Saturday crowned in coastal Ode-Itsekiri, Delta State, with several politicians, industrialists, traditional rulers and religious leaders in attendance.
At the event, President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by Among the Secretary to The Government of the Federation, Mr. David Lawal, said no Itsekiri person was among corrupt persons who had been returning loot to the coffers of the Federal Government.
He extolled the virtues of the people, noting that of all those who have returned stolen money, the Itsekiri people remained one of the few ethnic groups not affected.

A source in the presidency told The Guardian that circumstances that surrounded the appointment of Emefiele, including recent revelations about movement of the funds, and his involvement in the unexplained presence of two former heads of commercial banks, when President Buhari hosted members of the international business community in London, are being counted against the governor.
“Already,” the source said, “a small team of legal and financial experts has been directed to weigh the various implications the removal of the CBN chief could trigger, especially to prevent a similar backlash, as when the past government engineered the untimely retirement of former CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.”

Car Bomb Blast in Syria's Homs Kills Civilians

Over 22 people were killed in a massive blast in the Syrian city of Homs near a hospital, according to a source.

At least 22 people were killed and over 70 injured in the explosion near a charity association and the al-Ahli hospital in the center of the Syrian city of Homs, a source in the hospital said Saturday.

"According to our information, 22 people have died. There are about 70 injured people in the hospital. Some of the wounded were also taken to other hospitals," an employee at the al-Ahli hospital told RIA Novosti.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov has urgently summoned a Turkish military envoy in Moscow following the incident.

Seven individuals were killed on Saturday, amid a firefight between the Nigerian Army and individuals from the Shi’a Muslim faction, in Zaria, Kaduna.


The official Twitter record of the Nigerian Army says individuals from Ibrahim Zakzaky’s Shi’a Muslim group endeavored to kill the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Buratai.


Ibrahim El-Zakzaky is the leader of the Shi’a Islamic Movement center.


The individuals from the faction and troopers were said to have conflicted taking after an assault on the convoy of the Army Chief.


Meanwhile, the Shi’a individuals claim that the Nigerian Army raged the Shi’a Islamic Movement center headquarters Hussainia Baqeeyatullah-in the PZ area of Zaria and opened fire on a lot of Muslim faithfuls.
