NBS: 1.5m Nigerians Became Unemployed In 2016


The Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says another 1.5 million Nigerians became unemployed in the first quarter of 2016.

In its unemployment and underemployment report released on Friday, NBS said the country’s unemployment rate grew from 10.4 percent in the last quarter in 2015 to 12.1 percent.

In the third and fourth quarter of 2015, Nigeria saw about the same number of people become unemployed.

PDP National Convention Has Been Suspended!


This is to inform our supporters nationwide, all the delegates to the National Convention in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State that the National Convention has been suspended. This is due to the numerous court cases and the directives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to supervise elections into some offices. The 2016 Natonal Convention is suspended to allow time for the cases in court to be resolved. The Party regrets any inconveniences arising from this suspension.

Ubong Assam Delivers In Kidnappers’ Den

The wife of the traditional ruler of Esit Eket in Akwa Ibom, Mrs Ubong Assam, was delivered of a baby girl on Friday, May 13, while in custody of her kidnappers.
A family source, who pleaded anonymity, said in Esit Eket, Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, on Saturday that the monarch’s wife gave birth to the baby in an unknown hideout of her abductors.
The kidnappers abducted the traditional ruler’s wife and her four children in the Akpautong neighbourhood of Esit Eket on April 29.
The source said that the kidnappers quickly released the woman and her four children due to the birth of the baby in their den.
Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom, ASP Cordelia Nwawe, said that the command expressed appreciation to God for the safe delivery of the monarch’s wife.
She, nonetheless, said that the command had yet to receive any information about the release of the kidnapped woman and her four children.
The traditional ruler’s wife and her four children were released on May 14. (NAN)

PDP Sacks Sheriff, Appoints Makarfi Interim Chairman


The Peoples Democratic Party has fired its national chairman, Modu Sheriff, and has appointed an interim party executive led by a former governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi.
A former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, was also appointed interim secretary of the party.
The caretaker committee will pilot the affairs of the party for three months, our sources said.
The PDP took the decision on Saturday as part of efforts to resolve the crises the party is facing, party officials told PREMIUM TIMES.

Four FUTA Students Die In Accident In Ondo


Four students of the Federal University of Technology Akure, (FUTA) on Saturday lost their lives in an accident which occurred at Ibule community along Akure-Ilesha expressway in Ifedore local government area of the state.
Ibule community is about few meters away from FUTA.

The victims, whose identities were still unknown as at the time of filing this report, were said to be on their way to Ibadan, Oyo state for a religious programme.

Lagos Government Dismisses 100 LASTMA Officials And Demotes Many

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Dayo Mobereola, said that no fewer than 100 officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were dismissed in the last one year. Mobereola said this while responding to questions from journalists at the ongoing annual ministerial briefing holding in Ikeja to mark one year of Gov. Akinwumi Ambode’s assumption of office. The commissioner said that the officials were dismissed for various unpardonable offences bordering on unethical conducts. “Up to 100 LASTMA staff members have been dismissed while many were demoted,” he said. Mobereola, however, said that the state government had trained and retrained several LASTMA officials for effective service delivery. He advised LASTMA officials to carry out their duties within the law and shun every tendency to extort money from motorists in the state.

Vatasama Danladi, a security guard attached to the
Central Bank of Nigeria has been arraigned for stealing specimen Naira currency notes.

Danladi got into trouble after he deposited the stolen specimen naira notes amounting to N299,000 at GTB ATM deposit machines in Karu and Mararaba sometime in January 2016.

He got into legal trouble when the bank found the
299 pieces of N1000 marked “specimen” during a
process of cash count sometime in January.
He appeared before Justice Kolo of Abuja High
Court yesterday where he pleaded not guilty.

In view of his plea, counsel to EFCC, Andrew Akoja,
urged the court to remand the accused and fix a
date for trial.

History would record this monumental feat as one of the biggest miracles of our time. It was a testimony to the power of resilience and tenacity.

When Did APC/Buharists Become Patriotic?

Yesterday, March 20, 2016, I went to Tecno office in Maryland (Lagos) to make enquiries on one of their new product(L8). While there, I met with a staff, who is also a chronic follower of  Politics section and a core Buharist. This staff/Buharist started lamenting how PDP guys pick sides with individuals and groups that are against the FG (specifically NDA and IPOB), the act he termed "unpatriotic". I listened to his wailing a and asked him a simple question, WHEN DID APC REALISE THE NEED FOR PATRIOTISM?

In case APC has forgotten, it is good to remind them how "patriotic" they were all through the life of former President Ebele Jonathan with respect to the war against BH Terrorists.

'2nd girl rescued was abducted from Chibok school' - Army insists


The Nigerian Army insist sthat Serah Luka who was rescued from Boko Haram yesterday May 19th, is among girls that were abducted by Boko Haram members on April 14th 2014.

In an interview with Premium Times, the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said the Army cannot be debating what it knows as a fact.

Chibok community leader Pogu Bitrus today told The Associated Press that the 2nd rescued girl was not among the missing Chibok girls.

Government Sponsored Medical Tourism To End Come January 2017


The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on Saturday, said no Nigerian would be allowed to go abroad for treatment on government sponsorship from January 2017 that with the proposed partnership between the Federal Government and the Akwa Ibom Government on the operations of Ibom Specialist Hospital, Uyo.

The minister, who stated this in Uyo while inspecting facilities at the Akwa Ibom government-owned Ibom Specialist Hospital, pointed out that with facilities at the hospital, medical tourism abroad could be reversed.
