Ouch! He also alleged that while Buhari was in the UK recently to solicit for support for his presidential bid, he agreed to repeal the anti-gay law signed by President Jonathan in January 2014. A dog named Sevastopol!

As the old joke goes : Two men meet on the streets in Paris, one has a bulldog named Sevastopol. “why is your dog called Sevastopol?” asks the one. “try to take it, and you’ll see” Answers the other.
Since the Crimean peninsula was reintegrated into the Russian federation there has been a lot of writing back and forth about the legitimacy of the referendum or the right to self-determination of the Crimeans.
Mostly done by people not really interested in digging through the historic background or interested in seeing  things from the perspective of the Crimeans.

Back from Moscow

by Alexander Mercouris
As everyone by now knows I have been a week in Moscow.
It was an extraordinary, wonderful visit packed with productive work and meetings with good friends.  There is so much to say and I will try to say it when I can.  But first a quick general impression about the economic and security situation unrelated to specific political news or to the Nemtsov murder (of which more soon).
Briefly, there is no doubt the inflation is hurting.  I saw more beggars – overwhelmingly old and poor people – precisely the sort of people on low fixed incomes who get hurt most when inflation takes off.  Their numbers are still far below those in London and compared to Athens there is simply no comparison.

Russia Entirely Withdraws From Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty!

Russia suspends its participation in the task of the Joint Consultative Group under the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.

kremlin

Moscow has halted its participation in a consulting group on the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE), a record on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s site says. The suspension finalizes Moscow’s unilateral moratorium on the implementation of the CFE treaty declared in a decree issued by President Vladimir Putin in 2007.

“Russia made the decision to halt its participation in meetings of the consulting group from March 11, 2015. Thus, suspension of actions in the CFE declared by Russia in 2007 becomes full,” the statement reads.

The Russian Foreign Ministry added that “NATO countries actually would rather bypass the provisions of the CFE Treaty by expanding the alliance.”

An “adapted” version of the CFE treaty was signed in 1999, but NATO members refused to ratify it until Russia withdrew troops from Georgia and the breakaway Moldovan region of Transdnestria, a criterion Russia regards being an “artificial linkage.” In December 2007, Russia imposed a unilateral moratorium on the CFE treaty, citing it’s “irrelevance” over NATO’s plans to boost its military presence in Eastern Europe and the alliance’s refusal to ratify the adapted version. In November 2011, NATO member states said they’d no further exchange info on conventional weapons and troops with Russia. In November 2014, Russia suspended the implementation of the CFE Treaty.

“In these circumstances, Russia considers it senseless to keep its participation in the meetings of the JCG [Joint Consultative Group]…for political and practical reasons and unreasonably costly from the financial-economic perspective,” the ministry said citing head of the Russian Delegation to the Vienna Negotiations on Military Security and Arms Control.

The first CFE Treaty was signed in 1990 by 16 NATO and six Warsaw Pact members setting equal limits for every single bloc on five key kinds of conventional armaments and military hardware, including tanks, combat armored vehicles, artillery, assault helicopters and combat aircraft.

US Acts as Terrorist State Waging Finance War Against Russia – Austrian Magazine

The United States is waging a financing war against Moscow in a bid to weaken Russia to a spot of economic and social destruction, the Austrian Contra magazine said, adding this campaign goes against international law, WTO rules and bilateral agreements.

white+house

The United States has a wide selection of instruments at its disposal. The Austrian magazine named assigning false credit ratings as a primary example.

“Russia’s fundamentals are the best in the world. Not a single (big) state has better fundamentals than Russia. However, Fitch downgraded it to a 3B rating – just above junk level. The US has the worst fundamentals in the world. But the same rating agency has given it AAA, the best rating possible. It remains a mystery how the rating agency counts that,” the publication said.

The media outlet compared the US to an enemy declare that disregards general code of conduct and acts upon its whims and wishes, forcing other countries to participate. Moreover, Washington threatens any country that’s chosen to act independently with war and sanctions.

US actions ought to be brought to the eye of the United Nations, the Austrian Contra magazine said.

APC debunks myth of Buhari's one term if elected as President.

Press statement from the APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has debunked the myth being peddled by the PDP that Gen. Buhari will spend only one term in office if elected President, saying it is the creation of the PDP which is seeking to play a section of the country against another.

"The APC will not abridge the right of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to spend the constitutionally-guaranteed two terms as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria if elected in the March 28th poll,'' the party said in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
