Popular Nigerian music producer and singer, Babatunde Okungbowa popularly known as OJB is reportedly on admission at the General Hospital, Lagos following a relapse of his kidney ailment.
OJB, who had a successful kidney transplant in India last year, had a relapse two weeks ago, this is according to a report by Naijpals
A source at the hospital who spoke to Us said
“The medical experts who attended to OJB at the Lagos Hospital were shocked at the sudden relapse despite last year’s successful kidney transplant. They chided him for not going back to India for post-surgery check-ups as specified by the team of Indian doctors in the medical report given to him”.
When contacted, his third wife, Korede said
“I don’t want to say anything about it unless he talks about it himself. Have you called him? Because I have not seen the story and he has even warned me about it. So please I don’t want to have anything to do with it unless he talks about it himself. He warned me and I have to respect and obey my husband” she said
His first wife, Mabel donated one of her kidneys to him last year and he was believed to be doing well until this recent development.
The Russian and Chinese navies began joint naval exercises in the Mediterranean Monday in the latest sign of strengthening ties between the two countries.
The naval drill, to include live-fire exercises in the strategic sea connecting Europe, Africa and the Middle East, is seen by Western media as a signal being sent to Washington of a powerful new alliance emerging “in the very backyard of Western Europe”.“While only two Chinese warships are joining the Mediterranean exercises, their deployment reflects China’s desire to help Russia counter American power”, the New York-based National Preview magazine wrote in a comment.
“The enmity that defined Sino-Russian relations during much of the Cold War has long faded. In its place, an evolving China–Russian alliance is rising against American and international security. This alliance has a profound security component”.
The import of the ten days of maneuvers that got underway Monday was not lost on The Los Angeles Times either.“The point is lost on no one: A powerful new alliance of eastern giants is flexing its muscles in the very backyard of Western Europe — much as China has done on its own in the Pacific”, the newspaper wrote on Monday.
The Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger wrote about the friendship between Moscow and Beijing going beyond purely political and economic considerations.
“They are forging an alliance also in the military field as a counterbalance to the US and its European and Asian allies”, the paper warned.
“Though small scale, it is a signal of growing defense ties between Beijing and Moscow and a demonstration that China’s maritime horizons are broadening”, the BBC said in a report Monday.
“What is going on in the Mediterranean is hard proof of military might aimed against Washington”, the German Der Spiegel wrote, adding that Russia and China were drawn together by the presence of a common enemy – the United States.
“The joint Russian-Chinese drill hints to Washington that a new rivalry is now in the making in the Mediterranean Sea”, the magazine wrote.
The Sea Coopeeration-2015 exercise will run until May 21. A total of nine ships from both sides are taking part in the first drill of its kind to happen in the Mediterranean.The drills’ goal has been stated as deepening friendly cooperation between China and Russia and strengthening their combat ability in repelling naval threats.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on May 5, 2015 secured the conviction of Ifeanyichukwu Williams, who was being prosecuted before Justice O. O. Oguntoyinbo of the Federal High Court, Owerri, Imo State on a 2-count charge bordering on conspiracy, and dealing in petroleum product without appropriate license, contrary to Section 1 (17) (a) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
Ifeanyichukwu was arrested by men of the 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Owerri, on April 8, 2012 along Owerri-Onisha Road, Imo State, with a Volvo Truck with registration number: XN939FST, loaded with 42 drums of petroleum product without appropriate license. He was subsequently handed over to EFCC for prosecution.
One of the charges read: “That you Ifeanyichukwu Williams on or about the 8th day of April 2012 along Owerri-Onisha Road, Imo State, within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court did without lawful authority use a Volvo truck with registration number XN939FST to illegally deal in petroleum product by conveying same in 42 drums and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(17) (a) of the Miscellaneous Offence Act Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria) 2007 and punishable under Section 1(17)(a)(b) of the same Act.”
He was first arraigned in 2012 and pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him.
At the resumed trial on Monday May 4, 2015, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge. Shortly before the sentencing on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, the defence counsel, M. L. Amiamum, pleaded for justice to be tempered with mercy for his client, Justice Oguntoyinbo subsequently sentenced the accused to three years imprisonment. He ordered the convict to forfeit the petroleum product to the EFCC, while the truck is released to him.
The sentence is to run concurrently from the date of his arrest.

A recent report released by the Department of Defense warns of China’s rapidly growing space program, insisting that many of Beijing’s space activities are aimed at countering the space capabilities of adversaries in the event of a crisis or conflict.
The annual DoD report to Congress, titled Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China, comes as some in the US Air Force are calling for a more robust defense of US space assets. The US has more than 500 satellites which, according to the USAF, are increasingly exposed to threats from China’s rapidly expanding space program and so-called “counterspace” technologies.
“China possesses the most rapidly maturing space program in the world,” the report said. It goes on to add that in parallel with the program, the country continues to “develop a variety of capabilities designed to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by adversaries during a crisis of conflict, including the development of directed-energy weapons and satellite jammers.”
The news is likely to alarm Western countries, particularly the US, which relies heavily on communications and surveillance satellites to maintain an information edge over potential rivals. Beijing’s expanding space program and capabilities, according to the report, would undermine that advantage.
According to the report, a launch in July 2014 renewed concerns about China’s development of “destructive” space technologies. It noted that while the launch itself did not result in any damage or destruction, it had a “similar profile” to a January 2007 test in which a defunct weather satellite was deliberately destroyed, leaving hundreds of pieces of debris orbiting the Earth.
“The United States expressed concern that China’s continued development of destructive space technologies represented a threat to all peaceful space-faring nations, and was inconsistent with China’s public statements about the use of space for peaceful purposes.”
The report additionally details an incident in which China sent an unidentified object into space in May 2013.
“China launched an object into space on a ballistic trajectory with a peak altitude above 30,000km [18,641 miles],” it said. “The trajectory took it near geosynchronous orbit, where many nations maintain communications and earth-sensing satellites.”
“Analysis of the launch determined that the booster was not on the appropriate trajectory to place objects in orbit and that no new satellites were released,” the report added.
The mysterious object was in space for nine and a half hours before re-entering Earth and, while it has yet to be identified, the report goes on to suggest that the launch could have “been a test of technologies with a counterspace mission in geosynchronous orbit.”
Concerns about threats to US satellites have already prompted the Obama administration to propose an additional $5 billion in extra spending over the next five years to maintain the security of the country’s military and spy satellites.
“The US government is providing more details on Chinese counterspace activities than they have in the past,” Brian Weeden with the nonprofit Secure World Foundation said to Reuters. “The Pentagon is clearly increasingly alarmed about China’s growing space capabilities and counterspace capabilities.”

A Vietnamese court has sentenced two Nigerian men, Christian Nnadike, 34, and Collins Deke, 37, (pictured above) to 12 years each in a Vietnam prison for hacking into emails of local companies, contact the company’s foreign partners and swindle them of their money.
The men along with a Vietnamese female accomplice, Le Thi Kim Quyen, 35, who was sentenced to 15 years in prison and another Nigerian, de facto husband of the Vietnamese lady, Mark Mamado Abdallah, 39, who is currently at large, ran a scamming syndicate in Vietnam.
At the court hearing which took play in April, the men and their accomplice were also found guilty of another fraud scheme in which they pretended to be a British friend of two Vietnamese women on Facebook and asked them to send money as shipping fees to receive gifts.
According to prosecutors, the group defrauded many unsuspecting victims of over VND3.3 billion (US$150,000) between April and August 2013. Most of this came from the email hacking scheme.
Prosecutors said over the four months, the vietnamese woman, Quyen and her Nigerian husband, Abdallah hacked into the emails of several Vietnamese companies doing business with foreign companies. They gave the information to Nnadikwe and then Deke, who would later transfer it to another Nigerian man living in Malaysia. The unknown man in Malaysia then used the compromised email accounts to contact the victims’ foreign partners, asking them to send payments to a bank account opened by Quyen and Abdallah.
A highly respected Australian doctor, currently in remission from brain cancer, is speaking out on his belief that radiation from wifi, cell phones and their towers is a major factor in increasing brain cancer rates.
Dr. John Tickell is attempting to raise awareness and is calling for more funding for brain cancer research, as it has become the number one most deadly cancer for young people in Australia. According to the Australian government, there are 35 new cases of the cancer discovered each week with four out of five cases being fatal in the first five years.
“Leukaemia was once the leading causes of cancer deaths in Australia for under 40s but it now has a five-year survival rate of over 80 per cent. Breast cancer is around 90 cent compared to brain cancer which is around 20 per cent,” Tickell told the Herald Sun.
The Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association is denying any detrimental health effects from their radiation, but the World Health Organization has recently upgraded the radiation threat to category B2, meaning “possibly carcinogenic.”
“You can say you can’t prove it — in my mind it is proven looking at the studies that are unfunded by industry,” he said.
The largest study to take place so far was conducted among 5000 cancer patients. The study found that there was no increased risk of overall cancer, but cellphone use was linked to patients having a 40% increased likeliness of developing Glioma, a common type of brain cancer.
Tickell also blasted the United States’ Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and the fact that they have seemingly left all investigation to the telecommunications companies themselves.
“The telco-funded studies say they’re safe but the FCC has not done any tests on radiation from phones in 20 years,” Tickell lamented.
“There’s a million more times radiation in the air today than there was fifty years ago — that is frightening,” he said

Fact from fiction, truth from rhetoric, I know that it is foolhardy to expect that one individual alone can by himself/herself bring about this Change we desperately need and earnestly desire. However, inasmuch as you need to raise a viable team to work with, using the formula of zoning won’t cut it. My earnest advice to you is to choose officers and men strictly on merit and not necessarily what geopolitical zone they come from. Remember, this same zoning formula has been used at different times in this country, and each time, it has failed. The issue of zoning coming up now again is a reminder of times in the past that we desperately want to forget. Same of the same?
