Ben Bruce, Akinnaso and Noam Chomsky

These are very heady times. As Nigerians waited on May 29 as regards whether an authentic change was in the offing, an implicit debate of sorts occurred between two seemingly different individuals.

These two individuals were Professor Niyi Akinnaso on the one hand and Ben Bruce on the other. The former is a columnist with The PUNCH newspaper, while Bruce is a visible figure in the entertainment world who has just been elected into our highly privileged Senate.

Buhari, NSA meet over Boko Haram …President to visit Niger, Chad

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday held a closed door meeting with the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

It was learnt that the meeting, which held at the Defence House, Abuja, was aimed at assessing the security situation in the country, against the backdrop of renewed attacks by the Boko Haram sect.

Impeachment: Fayose, PDP beg Buhari to intervene

Tension rose again in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Monday as supporters of the state Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and some Peoples Democratic Party members laid   siege to the state House of Assembly in Ado Ekiti .

Their action was to prevent the 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers from gaining entry to the assembly to actualise their move to impeach Fayose. While the siege lasted, the national leadership of the PDP and Fayose urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the matter.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday named the President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mr. Femi Adesina; and the Director, Media and Publicity of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Mallam Garba Shehu, as representatives. Adesina-Shehu-360x240

"I'll not enter the Government House in the next two or three months" - Wike

The RIVERS State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, said on Sunday that he would stay far from the Government House in Port Harcourt for the next three months as an aftereffect of the vandalisation of the property in the spot by as result of past administration. wike

Wike, who talked at the post- swearing in thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt, revealed that all the vehicles in the Government House had been taken away.

 Oladele Nihi, Gloria and Ify, the 3 Nigerians who set out on a 19-day trek from Abuja to Bayelsa state to pay tribute to previous president Jonathan, are currently on their way back to their base, Abuja subsequent to satisfying their fantasy of meeting Jonathan in Otueke, Bayelsa state which happened on May 29th.

Buhari’s asset declaration

President Muhammadu Buhari and his deputy, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, have both done well by declaring their assets as required by law.

What Buhari and Osinbajo did, however, only satisfied the minimum requirement. This is not a minimum requirement government; we did not clamour for the minimum. The General and Prof made a promise of publicly declaring their assets; as far as I am concerned, they have not fully done so, and it is not too late.

2,000 couples tie the knot in Gaza

Vice president of the Islamic Hamas Movement, Ismail Haneya, on Monday, in Gaza, affirmed that Turkey offered four million dollars to fund mass wedding in Gaza. ShowImage
