Following the controversy surrounding the retention of dividends paid by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Company Limited to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), it has emerged that the initial directive to retain its 49 per cent share of dividends was actually given by former President Olusegun Obasanjo when he was in office.


Arising from this is another brewing controversy as to whether the dividends belong to the Federation Account for sharing amongst the three tiers of government, or just to the federal government, in this case the NNPC.

Ambode Cancels Fashola's Last Minute Lekki Land Allocations

Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos state, has revoked the allocation of over25 plots of land by his predecessor, Babatunde Fashola, in his final days in office.

TheCable understands that the expansive land at Lekki Phase One had been allocated to the Lagos State Water Corporation in 1998 by the then military administrator of the state, Mohamed Marwa, while the certificate of occupancy was signed by Bola Tinubu, former governor of the state, in 2006.
However, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who was the permanent secretary of the Lagos state ministry of lands under Fashola, had reportedly informed the former governor that the land was “available”.
The land was officially parcelled into 25plots and shared by Fashola who went on to sign the certificates of occupancy on May 26, three days to his exit from office.

Presidency has again stated that the administration of president Mohammadu Buhari will not shelve the probing of the past government of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the face of monumental fraud and corruption.

It however revealed that no one is under probe at the moment, saying that the government is only taking briefings and gathering evidences to prosecute corrupt officials of the past government.

The presidency’s reiteration followed an accusation of selective probe by a prominent Northern leader, Tanko Yakassai.

Prophet Breaks Wife’s Leg, Chains Son, 32 Others

A self-acclaimed pastor, identified as Prophet Emmanuel (saw name withheld), has allegedly beaten his wife to coma and broken her leg. The prophet also reportedly chained his son within the premises church at Berger area of the Lagos metropolis. Emmanuel was arrested by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) and later handed over to the police at Surulere Police Station.

Policemen attached to Area ‘B’ Command, Apapa, Lagos, have arrested a 54-year-old man for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Ajegunle area of Lagos. This came as a 42-year-old man, identified as Bala, was arrested by police in Oyo State for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Ibadan. On the Ajegunle incident, the victim (names withheld ) told policemen that the suspect, who is her late father’s friend, had had carnal knowledge of her twice.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon who is currently in Nigeria this morning laid a wreath at the scene of the bomb blast that rocked the UN House Abuja on August 26th 2011. 21 people died while 60 were injured. Ban Ki Moon later had a meeting with the staff of the UN House Abuja.

Explosions Reported at US Military Base in Japan

Multiple explosions were heard at about 1 a.m. local time at a warehouse at the US army base in Kanagawa Prefecture near Tokyo. No injuries have been reported yet.
The site is located near residential areas.

Sagami General Depot is used for the storage of fuel and munitions. As the facility has been underused lately, Washington and Tokyo held talks on the return of most of the 200-hectare territory to Japan.

A 34-year-old widow and mother of four in Egwudunagu village, Amachi community in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Mrs. Ogodo Egede has allegedly been defiled to death by one Alex Nwabu, a 40-year-old man in the area.

Nwabu, who allegedly committed the act in the deceased house in the night, was said to have been having constant affair with the widow with a threat to kill her if she dared disclose it to anyone.

Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole has alleged that a whooping N140bn was paid as consultancy fee for the construction of a second Niger bridge by the last administration. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said in just two and a half months of the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerians were already witnessing the Nigeria of their dream.

18 year old dies after drunken punch in Malia

A gifted sportsman from a top public school died after an assault outside a club on Crete as he awaited his A-level results.

Archie Lloyd, 18, was punched in a drunken row in Malia,, a notorious party town in Greece and hit his head on the ground, Greek police confirmed.

After refusing treatment, he returned to his hotel by cab in the early hours, and was found dead by friends soon after.

Sen. Saraki reaches out to former Gov Bola Tinubu


Multiple sources say that despite his public show of defiance, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has started reaching out to some of the aggrieved leaders of the APC.
Saraki is one of the gladiators in the clash of egos and wills that followed the Senate leadership election on June 9 and subsequent appointment of principal officers.
