The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has thrown its weight behind President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-graft war. IPAC described as mind-boggling, revelations of the past weeks on corruption cases involving some former public office holders.
A delegation of the group that consists about 20 registered political parties in the country, led by their Chairman, Bashir Ibrahim, expressed the support when they paid a courtesy visit on President Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday. In an address delivered during the visit, Ibrahim said his group was totally in support of Buhari’s resolve to bringing corrupt public officers to book.
He said: “While all accused persons remain innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction, it must no longer be said of Nigeria that this is the country where the corrupt is allowed to walk the street at will.
“To deal decisively with economic and financial corruption, we must simultaneously deal with political corruption as well.
“By political corruption, I mean the kind of conduct that creates the conditions for large scale abuse of power and authority and enables public officers to feel perfectly at home converting public resources to private use.
