FORMER president Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday said that he owes nobody any apology for his commitment to the Nigerian project.
Obasanjo stated this Tuesday night at a dinner organized in his honour by Governor Samuel Ortom during his private visit in Makurdi, Benue State capital.
He disclosed that shortly after his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) membership card was torn he withdrew from all partisan politics and became an impartial Nigerian.
The former president further said that he had a similar history to that of Governor Ortom, who recently revealed he was once a motor park tout at his youthful age, stating that he was called a tout at his old age in 2014.
He said that there was “no age, poverty, status, gender, position barrier in acquiring education and the day one stops learning is the day you also starts dying. He maintained that acquisition of knowledge should be from birth to death”.
Obasanjo applauded what he termed Ortom blueprint, which he described as an embodiment of good governance, adding that he must take note of all his promises and urged the people to help him succeed.
He said farmers in the country must joins hands together to provide food security, create employment and create wealth for the Nigerian citizens and used the opportunity to condole with the governor and the entire Tiv people over the death of their paramount ruler, HRH Dr. Alfred Akawe Torkula, Tor Tiv, who recently passed on.
Earlier in his remarks, Gov Samuel Ortom commended the former president for his contributions to the political development of Nigeria.
Ortom said the people of the state including him admired his courage and zeal in his pursuit for knowledge, after acquiring so much in life.
He said that his administration was committed to good governance and the necessary core values lacking in the society today.
