You’re A Threat To Democracy, Rivers PDP Tells Amaechi.

The war of words between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the rival All Progressives Congress (APC) continued on Tuesday as the former harped on the activities of the former governor, Rotimi Amaechi, which it said was dangerous to democracy.
While the APC was calling for a fresh conduct of the legislative elections rerun in the state, PDP was accusing the leader of the party of fomenting artificial crisis and tension so that a state of emergency could be declared in Rivers.

Prince Felix Obuah, Chairman, Rivers State Chapter of the PDP, said that the Minister of Transportation lied when he described Governor Nyesom Wike as a threat to the nation’s democracy.
The PDP chairman noted that former Governor Ameachi was only struggling to divert attention from his “abominable atrocities, rebellious activities and breach of public peace and security in the state and the nation at large, stressing that it is he (Ameachi) that had become a threat to democracy and peace in the country.”

He expressed disappointment that rather than help President Muhammadu Buhari to proffer solution to the numerous problems on his head, particularly the deteriorating economic situation and apparent “lack of focus” of the APC-led government in the country, Mr. Amaechi is busy blackmailing Governor (Wike), and causing trouble in Rivers State.
Obuah emphasised that “Amaechi’s statement was undoubtedly a cover-up, distraction and attempt to subvert the truth about whom he is and what his activities in the state portend, recalling how Amaechi flooded the state during the re-run with soldiers to rig the election, kill innocent voters and intimidate the citizens while exercising their franchise”.

The PDP boss noted that rather than admitting his failure as a governor for eight years and ill- preparedness for his new office as Minister of Transportation, Mr. Amaechi has resorted to pulling down the good foundation of the Wike administration, “a mission and task he cannot accomplish.”
Obuah therefore called on the former governor to settle down for business as a minister and allow the peace in Rivers State to reign, reiterating his earlier appeal to President Buhari to call him (Amaechi) to order, before he completely destroys the already rough image of his government.

Meanwhile, Dr. Austin Tam-George, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication, has asked officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to act within the law, and respect the free choice made by the Rivers people in the recent rerun in the state.
Dr Tam-George particularly warned Mrs. Amina Zakari, an official of INEC, and Mr. Rotimi Amaechi to cease and desist from subverting the electoral outcomes in Tai-Eleme Federal Constituency, Ikwere Local Government and other constituencies in Rivers State, whose results were still being held hostage by INEC.

The information commissioner condemned, “the sickening desperation of the APC in wanting to impose its candidates on the Rivers People, even when those candidates have been resoundingly been defeated at the polls.”
Dr Tam-George urged the Rivers people to continue to strongly resist by any legal means necessary, the fraudulent attempt being made by the APC to subvert democracy in Rivers State.
The information commissioner praised the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, for his inspirational and courageous leadership in saving Rivers State from the “APC’s politics of plunder and extremism”.
