US Geological Survey: Powerful Earthquake registered in Fiji Region

An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 has been registered in the southern the main Pacific Ocean, Fiji region, US Geological Survey (USGS) reported Saturday. The epicenter of the earthquake was registered to be 142 kilometers (88 miles) north-east of Ndoi Island of Fiji archipelago. The depth of the seismic focus was 421.9 kilometers (262.2 miles), USGS reported. No tsunami is expected, based on the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. An earthquake of magnitude six or maybe more is regarded as being powerful and more likely to cause considerable damage in addition to cause a tsunami.

Massive Shelling Continues in Donetsk 1 Day Before Elections: City Council

The tense situation persists in the town of Donetsk, while the sounds of gunfire explosions are heard throughout the city during the day, the Donetsk City Council said in a record published on the state website Saturday.
"At the time of 6 p.m. local time [16:00 GMT] the problem in Donetsk is tense. Cannonade and sounds of explosions didn't stop in the town during the day," the statement read.

The spacecraft broke apart right after it had been detached from the launch plane that carries it to 45,000ft Not surprisingly, Sir Richard has vowed to carry one with his attempt to take people along to the space.

The Nigerian Army has retired 15 generals from the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (NASEME) Auchi, Edo State, from active service. On the list of 15, 10 are brigadier-generals while the rest of the five are major-generals.

It is now two weeks since the meaningless ceasefire with, or better put, cessation of fire against Boko Haram was announced by the Jonathan-led government of Nigeria. Since then hundreds more have been killed, dozens of youth have been abducted for rape and forceful conscription and several more towns have fallen to the terrorists. Latest to fall was Mubi in Adamawa state where Boko Haram have hoisted their flags and begun open preaching.

4,333 Bama Residents Killed Since Boko Haram Occupation This September

The latest figures from victims counting deaths in Bama since Boko Haram occupation in records at Tashama Bama in Maiduguri, the Bama escapees rally point, is 4,333 killed by Boko Haram. The count is made from new numbers updated when people escape to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno from occupied Bama. Boko Haram conquered Bama the first week of September this year.

Fleeing residents describe summarily executions at whim of Boko Haram of the governed citizens. Bama at the epicenter of the genocide is the second largest city in Borno state and has a population according to the 2006 census of 269,986, currently estimated at about 700,000.

Boko Haram terrorists swore to pin their flag atop the house of Nigeria’s defense Chief, Air Marshal Alex Badeh. Thursday Boko Haram lived up to their pledge capturing Vintim, the defense Chief’s town and violating his home.

This as the Army Chiefs and President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan publicized a preposterous claim of a ceasefire agreement with the terrorists, clearly completely being taken for a ride by the terrorists, the Office of National Security, the Minister of defense and whoever else has been involved in their tactical and operational decision making.

Extremely disgusting that HRW used a photo from the brutal massacre of Odessa antifascists by fascists.
It is a crime they did not try to disclose, HRW hide the truth and use other people's grief for their purposes.
Since HRW serves the interests of the EU, the US, the victim of May 2 in Odessa are indirect victims of HRW. This organization supported the fascist coup in Kiev and hides a significant part of the Kiev junta crimes.
And now they used a photo of distraught with grief Odessian mother. HRW staff deserve the harsh treatment as accomplices of the fascists and terrorists.

Nigeria's Ambassador to UN's husband Dies

Prof. Joy Ogwu is Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the UN. Her husband, Dr Aloysius Ogwu has passed on. A record issued by the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the UN, New York, on Thursday said he died on Monday in New York, aged 77. He was a surgeon and retired as Chief Consultant Surgeon at the Military Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos. He's survived by his wife; Joy, five children, grand-children, sisters and brothers.

Canada suspends visas for residents of Ebola-hit African countries

In a bid to also stop the spread of Ebola into its borders, the Canadian government today October 31st announced its suspension of visa applications for travelers from Ebola-hit countries. 

Below is the statement released today by Canada's health minister, Rona Ambrose

"Our number one priority is to protect Canadians. We continue to work with domestic and international partners to aid efforts to respond to the outbreak in West Africa, while strengthening our domestic preparedness here at home."

EFCC arraigns UNIBEN undergraduate over $12,000 internet scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, October 30, 2014 arraigned an undergraduate of the University of Benin, Kenneth Rukewe Ebule before Justice E. F Ikponmwen of an Edo State High Court, sitting in Benin- City on a 6- count charge bordering on forgery, obtaining money by false pretence and possession of fraudulent documents.The accused person allegedly duped Sabine Albert, a German, of the sum of $12, 088, 75 through fraudulent claims.
