Fulani Herdsmen Attack Oyo Farmers

Farmers in Lagun, Iyana Offa, Offa, Atagba, Lapata and their surrounding communities in Lagelu Local Council Area of Ibadan, Oyo State, have alleged that a group of Fulani armed men attacked their communities at night, injured a guard and carted away valuables on Tuesday.

More than five farms and surrounding agrarian communities were allegedly visited in the attack, with eyewitnesses saying they also suspected that the attackers were Fulani herdsmen because of their mode of dressing.

Tribunal Rejects Saraki’s Appeal For Trial Judge To Disqualify Himself

The Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on Thursday, threw out the application by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, where he sought for the self disqualification of the Chairman of the tribunal, Danladi Umar.

Saraki through one of his counsels, Oluyele Rapheal informed the tribunal of a pending application for the tribunal Chairman , Danladi Umar to disqualify himself.

Rapheal in his argument insisted that the application be heard due to the alleged shady dealings of the Chairman.

Rivers state police declares man wanted


The Rivers State Police Command has declared one Solomon Ndigabara ”m”, a native of Yeghe community of Gokana Local Government, Rivers State. He is wanted for the alleged arson he planned and executed on 22/02/2016 on a property worth millions of naira in Bori, Khana Local Government.

He is dark in complexion, about 5.9 inches tall and in his early fifties of age. His last known address is Yeghe community of Gokana Local Government, Rivers State.

According to a report on Channels TV, two female suicide bombers have attacked an IDP camp situated in Bama, Borno state. Number of casualties is yet unknown. More details later.

Students reportedly sentenced to two months for hawking fuel & constituting a nuisance in Abuja

A male student and his female partner have been sentenced to two months imprisonment, each, by an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for hawking fuel in a jerry can along Abuja-Kubwa expressway, an act which constitutes an embarrassment to the Government.

According to the prosecutor, a team of police officers apprehended & arrested the accused, bringing them to the police station with 55 litres of fuel in their possession.

NNPC Distributes 1,194 Trucks Of Petrol Nationwide

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation said 1,194 trucks of petrol were loaded nationwide on Tuesday.

This is contained in the corporation’s Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily supply nationwide schedule released in Abuja.

According to the statement, twenty one import vessels laden with a total volume of 844.1 million litres have been confirmed to arrive in the month of April for NNPC.

US Forces Locate Chibok Girls-New York Times


MAROUA, Cameroon — The American and African forces sent to Cameroon to fight Boko Haram have, on several occasions, located clusters of the schoolgirls kidnapped by the militant group two years ago, United States officials said.

Rescue operations have not been carried out, the officials said, because of fears that any ensuing battle with Boko Haram fighters would put the captives at risk, or incite some form of retaliation against hostages still being held in other areas.

American officials said a combination of local intelligence, intercepted communications and drone footage had been used to locate groups of the 276 girls abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in the Nigerian town of Chibok two years ago this month. Some of the girls have since been tracked to Nigeria’s sprawling Sambisa Forest.

Evidence Against Saraki Burnt In GTBank - Witness


Michael Wetkas, a detective of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says some of the documents that were evidence of transactions in the foreign account of Senate President Bukola Saraki got burnt.

Wetkas, who was responding to a question from Paul Usoro (SAN), Saraki’s lawyer, on some fund transfers from the senate president’s Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) account to his alleged American Express bank account, said that in the course of his investigation, officials of GTB told him that some of the documents showing the transactions got burnt.

States To Benefit From The N345b EU Fund

Five states yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to access 1.5 billion euros fund for development projects.

The Academic Study European Union (ASEU) Resident Consultant for West Africa, Senator Jonathan Zwingina, who spoke at the agreement signing ceremony in Abuja, said the states paid nothing but only indicated their willingness and readiness to access the multi-billion-naira development funds.

Arik Air Shuts Down As Unions Protest N12.4bn Debt It Owed FAAN

Arik Air’s business activities were on Wednesday disrupted by members of several aviation unions over an alleged N12.4 billion debts owed the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
According to report, several passengers were left stranded at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Murtala Muhammed Airport as placard-carrying unionists frustrated the operation of the airline as early as 6.30am.

Some stranded passengers were seen demanding a refund from the airline staff while others were making alternative arrangements on how to be able to depart for their destinations.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has assured residents of Sokponba Area of Benin City that the over 30-feet deep underground drainage project which is ongoing will bring a lasting solution to the problem of flooding in the area. He said his administration is determined to complete on-going road and drainage projects at the Second East Circular and Sokponba areas of the state capital. Already sections of the dual carriageway road on Second East has been asphalted. Speaking during an inspection of projectsat the Second East Circular and Sokponba Roads in Benin City, Governor Oshiomhole said, the government is doing everything possible to ensure completion of the projects before the full rainy season.

Orubebe arrived a few minutes before the senate president, who sauntered into the courtroom at 10:03am.

Both personalities are facing charges at the CCT for alleged false declaration of assets.

Obama Sends Samantha Power To Nigeria Over Boko Haram Growing Threat


The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, will be in Nigeria between Thursday and Friday to highlight the growing threat Boko Haram poses to the country.
This is contained in a statement by the Information Unit, U.S. Embassy in Abuja and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

It stated that Power had earlier visited Cameroon and Chad between April 16 and 20 to underscore the rising danger the insurgence poses to the Lake Chad Basin region.

The Code Of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has revealed that the Bureau cannot disclose the asset form of citizens as it runs contrary to the constitution which guarantees and protects the privacy of citizens.

The CCB hinged it’s argument on the premise that section 37 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, which guarantees and protects the privacy of citizens, their correspondence and telegraphic communications amongst others.

The Bureau was responding to a request by Barry Benedict Ezeagu, the national cordinator,SNG, on the freedom of Information request on the declaration of properties, assets and liabilities of some public officers.

 The Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army on Monday, April 18, paraded 36 armed herdsmen who were intercepted by troops of the 117 Guards Battalion Keffi along the Abuja-Keffi road on Sunday. 56 other herdsmen were arrested at the Dantata check point between Kuje and the Abuja airport.

According to the spokesman of the brigade, Captain Bashir Jajira, the 36 herdsmen were arrested by troops at the Keffi check point at about 4:30 pm Sunday, April 16, in a Diana Truck and a Toyota Camry Salon car.

Saraki seeks to stall trial again, asks judge to disqualify self

The PUNCH can authoritatively report that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has filed another application before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, to stall his ongoing trial on charges of false asset declaration.
Saraki whose numerous applications seeking to stall the trial had been dismissed by the CCT itself and others including the Supreme Court, through his fresh motion, is asking the tribunal chairman, Danladi Umar, to disqualify himself.
