I Need Prayers, Not Congratulatory Messages – NNPC GMD

The new Group Managing Director of The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Emmanuel Kachikwu, has asked friends and well-wishers to pray for him for divine guidance.

According to him, rather than placing congratulatory adverts about him in the media, his well-wishers should pray that he would be able to carry out the onerous task ahead.

Kachikwu was announced the new GMD of the national oil firm on Tuesday. A day later, he personally conveyed the sack message of eight NNPC group executive directors to the affected individuals.

A statement issued by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, stated that the new GMD “appealed to friends and well-wishers to stop placing congratulatory adverts on him in the media.”

It stated that Kachikwu, who assumed duty as the 17th GMD of the corporation on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, said he saw his appointment as a serious national assignment that does not require the frivolity of congratulatory adverts and the celebration they connote.

The GMD reportedly said he “would rather appreciate that friends and well-wishers support him with their prayers for divine guidance to carry out the onerous task ahead.”

Buhari had on Tuesday relieved Dr. Joseph Dawha of his appointment as the GMD of the national oil firm, replacing him with Kachikwu, who, until his appointment at the NNPC, was the Executive Vice Chairman and General Counsel of Exxon-Mobil (Africa).

The President had in late June dissolved the NNPC board.

The Federal Government, through the NNPC, regulates and participates in the country’s petroleum industry.

Punch.
